Poor Dutch. Go to my site HERE Under Appz V1 you will find Sygate Home Network. Download this and just let it do it all for you. Worked a treat for me.

we could also try and sort mine out (could be a couple of more pages)

David and Dutch, now I know where all yours posts are coming from lol

Dutcho ..can you give me some sound advice to setting up my PC to the kids PC (networking)..What will i need to do this? I have been following your post for a while now and I hope you are the right person to ask about this subject.
PS..dont get too technical m8,my 'L'plates are still on with PC's....Cheers Jock

i could do with some help please,my prob is i have 2 comp`s,1 laptop,a 5 port switch, cable modem and i can`t get them to see each other or share the modem.

qwerty, you don't have a firewall running do you ? That was one of my many problems.

Jock69er, to start off you need two nics and a cross-wired network cable (cat5) that is if you just want to connect two pc's directly together.

When you have that then we can continue.

i do zonealarm 3 but i`ve uninstalled it and still no joy

Make sure that each machine is on the same workgroup and that they all have unique names.

Also check the ip address is something like 169,254.0.* where * is a unique number on each machine and they all sould have a subnet of 255.255.0.0

I have not played with hubs etc but I believe that you need to setup a gateway as well.

Hopefully this post will attract the attention of someone who knows a bit more, but please keep on this thread. (our goal is ten pages)

i have 1 comp and laptop connected to the switch and then switch connected to the nic in main comp.i bought a switch should i have bought hub or something else..

ps i can see this going past 10 pages

its a 5 port nway switch, when i connect 1 comp to switch and then to cable modem everything is ok so you think just add the others to the switch NO....cant find isp then it takes a while for the main one to find isp(when all others disconected)after a couple of kicks its ok again so should i have bought a network hub??
