What do I need in order to compile a dm800se image?

I've actually just gone ahead, backed up the original tar.gz file, updated it and then compiled it with no probs.

Have added some more debug lines, this time into one of the crossepg library files, will know tomorrow if the extra info helps

yes thats it, or it's what I did anyway.
The finished file will be in
build-dm800se/tmp/deploy/ipk/mipsel

If the git updates then you will have to do the same to the new tar.gz file.

Is there like a guide on what does what and what goes where?

At the mo I'm looking through all the folders 1 at a time trying to work out how everything slots together.

I have only been playing with this since before xmas.
I was ok with neutrino on the dbox2 and dm500 but enigma2 and python is all new to me.

I have limited knowledge and it's only what I pick up as I go along.

I can tell you how to add things to the image etc but I havn't got to the stage where I am editing to much yet.

Just a heads up CrossEPG source has been updated to git 287 today.

I still haven't managed to get to the bottom of the failed epg.dat update so have added debug lines to another file, here's hoping.
