Dreambox ?

if your dish gets struck by lightning believe me, you wont be worrying about the house electrics, itll be a good builder youll be needing, ive got a pic somewhere from when i first started with sky and we went to a service call (before digital) for no signal after a storm, pulls up to half a house where the customer told us he had no signal cos his dish had melted just before his wall blew up after being struck.

what you could do then is using a small jubilee clip type thing connect a cable to the outer body of the f connector on the LNB (remember to make it water proof after though) and run a small cable from this to the LNB arm (if its metal). when it rains then this will also discharge any static in the cable (but your pic will be affected more in this way during electrical storms, which is why you now only find an earth point on dodgey twin LNBS used by sky lol)

well unless you you can find a earthing point outside you will need to by a grounding rod and stick it in the ground correctly

seem a lot of work though mickie for a bit of static that might not even be there :)

what i do is if i start to get any strange probs i disconnect the dish in the house at the reciever and touch the center pin in the f commector onto the case of the reciever, static gone :)

hes worried about lightning though not static lol.

would not take long to earth bond the dish run some 6mm earth up the wall put the earth rod into the ground and done that way lighting wont come into the house but if you work on the princaple that all earth is connected if lighting hit the dish you would still get some discharge from the strike anyhow.... and if youw as unlucky enough to have a strike on the dish without the earth going to ground it would run right into your box anyhow.

and fook even with 10mm earth you would have to wonder how much voltage and current that cable could carry without melting

anyway its all fun and games but me personaly i earthed my box via my television as i was having problems aswell...

Regards
Mickie

oops:) can i just say here that Invacom 0.3LNB's (arguably the best) have earthing points.... [feckin big 'ead, who asked me anyway] :)

Earthing the LNB does sometimes help with electrical interferance. Usually you wont notice, and the uk electric is generally quite "clean" so i wouldnt bother. But here where the signal is weak and the electric is crap [thats an understatement] you do sometimes get amazing results here, just from earthing. Nevermind, i'm gonna shut up now, sorry.

:)

er.. just to add [you cant shut me up] Digidudes first advice re removing screw on back of digibox and earthing indoors is the way to do it, dont worry about lightning coming inside, although its bad if your using your tongue to earth the wire. : shocked2

lol, thatll teach me for not using quality parts

(and for getting my LNBs from the back of sky vans :))

what do these dreamboxes work on is it satalite or cable or both im asking this cos im assuming they r the same as the dbox2 (probly wrong) and i read somwhere make sure when getting a dbox2 that u get the right type e.g cable or sat

The dreambox is a sat only box m8

Cablewise, I'd love an NTL box with a built in PVR - that would be so heavy - but I don't think there is such a thing

There is some confusion due to a similar name.

The Dreambox recievers from 'Dream MultiMedia' are for satellite reception only. The Dbox receivers are different and come in 2 sorts, cable and satellite types.

Hope this helps guys.

I thought so because when I went to the dreambox site I didn't see anything about cable. (this is good to know because when I'm lasy I'd say dbox to describe the dreambox)
I did a search on Google for Dbox but couldn't find the company website
I did find however...
[DLMURL="http://homepages.enterprise.net/smalone/dboxhack.html"]This[/DLMURL] which is a diescription of a freeview satellite version - And this on ebay, again a sat version

thanks for clearing that up for me guys now for next question :)

with a dreambox on a sat stream r all the channels sport? (hope not) and r they mainly foreign speaking

also do i need a digi dish or analogue

European satellite tv basically covers every language, so yes there are thousands of foreign speaking channels. But many also have English sound, or you can change the audio to get different languages. Cant really say whats the most popular language, i never counted.
Of course all channels are not sport. Movies, real porn, music, and sport are just the most enjoyed and therefore most popular. There are lots of other types of general entertainment programs to find, it just depends what you like.
The dish you need is basically anything apart from a small sky dish, the bigger = the more choice you get. The LNB will need to be 'universal' type so that it can handle digital, because thats really all there is nowadays cos analogue is very outdated.
I got to say tho, i think you are best to consider a more basic receiver rather than jump in with a Dreambox. You'd still get the same channels as with Dreambox's, but it wont be so much to take in and learn at once.

Wow, I'm just starting to realise the power of this box.

I maanged to Update the software from version 1.05 to ver. 1.08 using the internet update from the box.

I then used Dreambox Edit to save my program list. (this prog is good because I'd be able to sort all my thousands of channels and delete the ones I don't want :))

I managed to find Hydra zeus, which looks like it's got some nice goodies on it :)))

I managed to upload the Hydra image using Flashwizard Pro. (the Hydra menu has a lot nicer look/feel to it, nice)

And I've found the NEWCAMD you were talking about, however I'm stuck at uploading the NEWCAMD onto the Hydra. Is it done using telnet? hope not I'm rubbish at that. - but tell you the truth I'm quite chuffed because I've reached a lot further than I thought I would plus I realise some of the capabilities of this box.

how do u upload the new keys
??
can it be done with serial??
or has it got to be done
with network?

@ dave you can do it via ftp

but what newcamd version do you have installed ?

to update the new keys you need to get the keys file and the scce file and copy them over the old ones ;)

i had a problem doing it like that at one point so what i did was to delete the key and the scce folders and then copy them

but i just use the control panel to update the keys from the internet M8

One problem I noticed with my Dreambox 7000
I left it on standby mode for a few days, when I turned it back on I noticed the screen had a blue tint across any channel or menu. I tried a restart but it didn't work. I had to turn off the power for a few hours before the problem corrected itself.

Now I always shutdown after use and no problems since.

Nice reading

Just thinking about getting a dreambox and start all the fun :)

I would like to clear the dbox 2 questions up

I ve just come from the dbox 2 scean (not dreambox)

A dbox 2 are very similar to a dreambox, there is two version a sat and cable version. I dont know much about the sat version, but the cable version sound like it a lot like the dreambox.

It runs on linux you can do streaming, card sharing, emu cams , nextworking plus other.

All the cardsharing and emu cams started on the dbox 2 and now it gone over to the dreambox. I think most of the proggrammers started on the dbox 2.

Its amazing box for cable users

Because of using this box im thinking of messing with a dreambox, It all sounds the same.

Any one used a dbox (not dreambox) and a dreambox, can you tell me if i would have a head start with a dreambox.

The dreambox came a long time before dbox2, (although Dreambox did 'evolve' from Nokia developing & sat hacking) and definately cable programers came many many years after satellite programers, lol. :) Not getting into a contest against cable, but with regards to cardsharing and emu's - cable came second. Nagravision was busted on satellite which gave insights and the way forward for cable hacking.

Anyway, if you are familiar with the Dbox2 then you will no doubt find a Dreambox similar and easy enough to understand. I think you will find more choices and options with a dreambox, and learning more about the satellites and channels etc just comes with playing around. So i'm sure you'll pick it up quickly, no problem.
