Kryptview doing my head in

My usb to serial shows up in device manager when its plugged in and shows the port number.

Thats the way i see it check in control panel/system and device manager and com ports/see usb serial device and it displays the com port.

You can then adjust your flashing software to the right com port, and it works.

But like I say I dont like holding my serial to usb adaptor wire....it feels like it came out in the 80s.... it reminds me of when one had to add a bios file on a floppy disc to flash a mobo.... it reminds me of the floppy peroid. Please Kryptview add a usb port !

will people read the tuts about how to use box even if usb is fitted remember the 8882 with starview,you only need to use the cable once to flash and it can be updated from the net cool or what lol.who knows whats on next model.

thats the thing, if you read the tuts/posts its a doddle.
i got mine last week, never flashed a box before..
read all the info that is widley available on the subject..
had my box flashed/scanned and watching playhouse disney wiothin 20 minutes :Clap::Clap::Clap:

That would make it too easy then to connect to the net and actually use the kryptview server, without having to go out and buy power Ethernet adapters or buy a 20 meter network cable..... Sorry im a sarcastic git today lol

I really do want them to make an proper updated box with hd/inbuilt server/2 usbs for hdd or wireless dongle or wireless n inbuilt with sata or external usb hdd support for PVR and Hdmi output.

It will be interesting too see if we see Starview or Eurovox bringing out any newer boxes to compete with. A780 is just a quick rehash soloution

On the Sat scene these boxes are going as standard specs as above and also contain servers ie spiderbox for £150-200, so krytview team are way overdue

Just another question i have just got a pcmcia serial card how do i find out what port it is so i can update the box i just tried it and choose port 3 and it gave me the same problems as with the serial adapter.

Most of the cheaper dvb processor chips dont support USB. If you wanted USB then it would be a different (and probably more expensive) box.

USB also has its own set of problems which makes things like box flashing particularly prone to failure. Serial ports are generally more robust for such operations. Notice its people who tend to use USB/Serial adaptors that have the problems !!!

There's also other reasons why even boxes with USB ports are unlikely to support things like wireless dongles. Mostly, its due to dongles and the like requiring their own particular driver and its unlikely that the dongle manufacturers would build a driver set for dvb box processors and even more unlikely they would give the code to the box manufacturers for inclusion in the box firmware. Then, of course, there are literally thousands of different dongle types so how many could you include in a relatively small firmare ?

Drivers for these kinds of things are really limited to the bloated desktop OS market (Windows/Linux/Apple etc) rather than the embedded device market.

story so far bloody me and the box just been to mates updated box thanks napster for firm ware and the ethernet port lit up thank god. Then follwed the tut reset box then do the scan choose manchester net id 4160 i think off the top of my head as i am in oldham there was no rochdale scan done only getting normal channels all the rest scrambled feel like screaming lol problems problems. Box connected through home plugs reset router box unplugged plugged everthing back the thing is i still dont think im getting an internet signal when i go on to s/w update just to check is says failed on box no lines come on screen from 0% 50% 100% on the screen which iam guessing if i had a signal would atleast show something.

it sounds like your not getting your connection to the INTERNET though home plugs, can you get the box plugged direct into the router to see if thing clear that way.
