now i know this light comes on when you turn egnition, but what does it mean when it is flashing with engine running????

i didnt want to cut out engine incase it didn't start again so i left it flashing for about 2hrs.....

my car is an astra diesel 10 plate...
yesterday i had to change a fuse because of water bottle freezing.
i sort of damaged (smashed)fuse box cover trying to open it.... (which is in the engine compartment and prbably open to the elements now...:proud:)

wondering if this has summit to do with it....
any help appreciated....

Re: coil light on dieslel cars

maybe m8, never thought of lights,
had it in my head it was because the engine had been idleing for so long...
will check lights tomorrow when i rever it... :)

Re: coil light on dieslel cars

i think thats a glow plug light...

usally comes on when you turn the key to postion 1 and then you should let it go out before you turn the key the whole way...

seeing it is staying on you could have a fault with you glow plugs...

Re: coil light on dieslel cars

On a lot of diesel cars its an engine management light mate .
Have it scanned

A 10 plate Astra Diesel and you were scared incase it wouldn't start, lol :err:

I've got a 53 plate Astra Diesel and it starts first time every time, even this morning when the cars digital thermometer was telling me it was -17c. :)

yep but the heater plug light was flashing, if they werent working right then it might not have started....
turns out anyways it was fook all to do with heater plugs......

I'm geussing that the dpf or diesel particulate filter couldn't complete a regen cycle. That's why the light would be flashing . Should do a regen on the next drive cycle. If it keeps failing the regen cycle the mil lamp will come on and you'll have to go in to the dealer to let them do a forced regen. (regen is just burning off the soot that the dpf collects at high temprature). They are a right pain in the arse on some cars.

thats exactly it,
i drove 8 fookin miles in nine hours so engine was basically idling,
says in the book to take on a long drive and keep engine revs above 2000...
fat chance in weather lol

Fook mate, what was it like stuck in that traffic, I was keeping a close on on it on the news channels and live traffic cameras, it looked like a living nightmare.

Did you have stuff to eat and drink?

Plenty of fuel to keep the heater running?
