360 firmware hacked according to slashdot

well this is supposwd to b the modded firmware-from what ive gathered you still need to put your own unique byte thingie in,and i aint got a clue how thats done

ohh yes most defo. i have manged to hack not only the dvd drive but the hack the whole thing, and play backup games. and more. i have also put windows xp media center edition in, lol, i might be dreaming, but yh, and i also have made the xbox360 into a ps2. i can now pplay ps2 games, and ohh yh, working on making is able to play ps3 games too, just waitin for the software to come through from sony and i will put it on xbox, and the joy of xboxing. YES YES!!!

im with you on this these guys are "HACKERS" microsoft cant make anything secure from intrusion or hacking cos they are s**t at trying to do it. everything they bring out they say its un hackable but everyting gets hacked more or less straight away. i reckon if APPLE made a console that would pretty much be unhackable.

Just looked at my drive and its an Hitatchi model. :banana:
As far as I know Samsung drives are a no no but are being worked on.

I imagine microsoft will now encrypt the dvd drive firmware to stop the access to the unique 16 byte key. Not sure if this is possible over Live I imagine not.

just been reading on this site and i think thay will give you some idea how to do it but i dont know as i have never done it i think you have to take a chip out and flash it not to shore i only had a qwick read

1st, is the hack real and 2nd now that it has hit the papers about the hack do you think micro$oft can change that sort of software via xbox live?

yes its real m8 i was thinking It would be neat if you could plug in DVD360 firmware Flash device this could be plugged into the drive or even better wire soldered to the dvd rom drive to rip the original firmware onto a protected flash chip and stored for backup. Have a external switch flash device like for the Xecuter 2.1 with nice pretty lights. Have it so when connected to the PC we can change hacked firmware.

Then upload the hacked firmware through the device. Then all you would need to play live is just flick the swich before bootup to rewrite the original firmware. Also have a protection mode which halts the dvd rom drive when it detects firmware upgrades from game disks or external sources which then needs confirmation from the user to proceed.
