I use to work for London Underground and had a accident got medical retirement getting a pension equal to my salary minus shift allowance got paid out from the insurance, bought my house cash got no mortgage. Now I've disclosed all this info to the DWP but was told it makes no difference to my entitilement I still get DLA, incapacity benefit and some other benefits can't remember what they are. Four month ago I get a letter from a company called Warm Front telling me that they were going to visit me, the woman turned up had a look round my house and told me they will insulate my loft and cavity the front and side wall (semi detatched). I said how much will it cost me, she said it will only cost me if the value of the work exceeds £2700as I qualify for the grant. The work has been done and I got a letter with a range of grants that I could apply for, now thats £2700 per year (no rollover) I could have double glazing, new boiler just to name a few things on that list also they keep sending me these energy saver bulbs I got enough to open a shop!!
I bought a brand new 330 coupe and a hyundai s3 coupe for my wife and my neighbours don't seem botherd at all. I'm a "healthy looking" 35 year old whos home all day, good job I don't live next to some of you guys as you would bug my house!!!
Some freinds have called me a lucky bastard and my reply is always the same let me run you over and go through 42 operations have a cabinet full of all sorts of pain killers can't run, can't walk too far my fcuking leg looks like a A-Z so I can't wear shorts my back looks like I got a X like the X factor on it plus other things that I rather not say.
My neighbours know nothing about my disability but I don't sence any jelousy from them.
So to the op look up some of the benefits that disabled people are entitled to and remember not all disabilities are visible like me your neighbour could be wishing that he had good health and could work.

If he is innocent then gets investigated and say the DWP freeze his assets for months and the guy can't meet his new morgage payments and loses his house that will be ok. all because you told someone to report him.

You CANNOT though. So should no one ever report anyone.

If you feel someone is abusing their children but are not sure, should you not let the authorities investigate?

AGAIN, reporting them is not to condemn them as guilty, but to allow those capable to conduct an investigation.

the reason I started to question my neighbours income was last week we got the letter thru the post from the council about his extension, my wife who is a professional accountant was intrigued as to how he can fund such a large sum of cash for propery development when he is on benefits. I know he has not be truthful on his benefits application and gets more than he is entitled, but now it does seem what ever he is up to he as amassed a large volume of cash.

I know alot of people in my area to do this benefit fraud, a friend of mine's neigbour got arrested and taken to court for defrauding the benefits from around 100k (he had three houses on rent but didnt inform the benefits people of this income, turned out they found three bank account in his name with over 30k in each one)

i think its out of order . how many of the do gooders that want to report him are stealing cable services ? or is that different . as far as im concerned theft is theft so if your stealing services pay up or shut up about grassing he guy to the social.

so It's not even obvious to the OP yet people judge a guy on his say so. and because he says other people have said this and that.

and he is guessing who much the work will cost 55k - 60k. has he seen builders quotes, just because his cost 45k maybe the OP got ripped off when they built his. The guy imight be just paying for the materials. for all we know friends and relations might be doing the building work. maybe he has re-morgaged the house to pay for it. the social won't pay his morgage they only pay the intrest on a morgage but only if you qualify for it.

but you don't know who is doing the job as I said the guy might just be providing the materials and friends and relitives might be doing the work.

No.

I used a philosophical device to propose the question is it ever correct to inform on someone even though you are not completely sure?

The answer would be in certain circumstances yes, as my analogy has proven. You draw the line at not dobbing in possible benefit cheats if you are not completely sure, but would bring to the attention of the authorities if you had a concern about a child's safety.

I would do both.
