Im thinking about a system where you must be registered to download the codes, and to prevent people giving out usernames+passwords on ebay, the keygen will only allow the codes to be downloaded once per day.

They will not be visible to the user, but will be encrypted and saved.

I know it sounds a bit OTT, but i dont want people ruining hard work put into the keygen, etc.

People will have to request accounts, or will get one automatically for helping with the keygen/site, etc.

Dommac, would you be willing to update the keygen to support this? If you could, i'll start on it now.

would have to be twice a day, once for xtraview and one for redhot

Yeah, was gonig to make it twice a day, but if they got the codes twice, it wouldnt be able to download the redhot ones. There will be 2 downloads per day, 1 at xtraview times, the other at redhot times.

sounds good DOS ;) thanks for keeping us up to date m8 :)

I agree something like this should be done, but what about people with 2 freeview boxes?

sounds great

hi m8s sounds great to me keep up the good work
thanks for all your hard work joe : big crow
ps would we be able to more than 1 unlock from the download if someone has more than 1 box for instance?

Would it be poss to make the keygen store the last codes you downloaded automatically in a text file. For when you turn off your DTV box and reload the program it will be poss to use the keygen without redownloading the codes.

*EDIT* will solve the 2 freeview boxes prob also

make sense??

some 1 beat me to it
need to speed up my typing on the bevvvvvy again cheers lads

Yeah, you'll be able to generate as many codes as you like.

But if that gets abused by someone setting up subscription services, we may have to limit it.

great

no prob from here anyway
i only abuse my body
now
and
again : thanks :

sounds like a good idea to me. Will anyone post the redhot codes tonight?

Nothing will be posted on my site until iv got this new thing working...

think this a good idea dos sorry I haven't bean posting codes I have bean working different shifts lately and haven't hade time

I should be able to update the keygen (although I don't know if I'll have much spare time this week).

Limiting the codes download to once a day would probably need to checked at the server side. Also as the keygen would need to store the values somewhere this system could still be abused.

LOL - I can't believe that we're trying to design a system to stop misuse ;)

Wouldn't bother with the reg thing personally. Too much of a fart-on plus you'd have to be sure of the situation viz-a-viz xv/rh getting nasty.

If it were me coding it I'd do as follows (liberally "borrowed" from microshaft):

1. Calculate a hash of the client hardware (changes infrequently unlike email etc).
2. Connect to server .asp or php with hash as param.
3. If hash not exist add to server-side list and write out download in page and send server-side id back. Write server-side id to resource file of prog.
4. If hash exist and not downloaded already write out download in page.
5. If hash exist and downloaded already tell 'em to sod off and store number of attempts.
6. If hash exist and number of attempts > n lock them completely (forever).

If you did this silently when the keygen ran and can store the server-side id with the .exe then anyone flogging it would be quick to trace. I'm sure vb lets you modify resource files on the fly so I imagine dot net will :)

Hmmm... second thoughts might need to evolve this a bit more - I can see a couple of problems but you should get the general idea.

Regards.

Argghhh! Can't believe I just wrote that! Broke the cardinal rule I always haul my staff over the coals for - keep it simple stupid!!!

How about a solution whereby the program checks for a specific value on the website first - if it ain't right it don't work. It'll not stop any bell-end's from selling it but it sure as hell will let you kill it off if they do!

I think it's a good idea so long as it's kept fairly simple and easy to use.

I struggle as it is!

WOW bit late for that.. sold about 20 copys of the keygen on ebay .. WHACKIN THEM OUT!! only joking..

A quickie question.. Search button not working btw ..

I have a Nokia mediamaster 221t.. if i enter pids will i still have to bother with the keygen?? for extraview as its allot of caffufal... :(

If you can manually tune the channels (by entering the PIDs) then there's no need for the keygen.
