Hi there.

Im toying with the idea of getting another vu+ duo but i have been also looking at the ultimo.

Is it a good receiver?
Is there support and is it worth the money or would another receiver do it for the price?

regards

Hiya mate, im in the same boat as you, been toying with the idea of getting a ultiomo for a while but the price tag keeps putting me off, by the looks of it its well supported all the usual teams have images for it so dont think it lacks in that way, its the third tuner i really want, is it for the extra tuner you need it or just fancy different box ?thanks

Glad to see im not the only person in this perdicumant.

Been doing some research on it and it seams to have hardware blind search aswell. (corrected if i am wrong)

that appeals to me for the occasional feed hunting and also the big display which will probably get me in trouble when i leave a porn channel on by accident and the vfo displays the channels name on the box lol but i have to say it looks damm sexy. Also fitting that it can use dvb-s2 and dvb-c/t and the same time for the possible cable tv eliment for the future.

plus better ram and nand flash is also a bonus but another £200 quid seems quit steap.

love the vu+ duo but would like to upgrade and seeing as I only live once i guess that i might aswell stump up the cash and get the box. As a motorcyclist you never no when you time is up ..

Im going for it!

I dont want to dampen your spirits but the Ultimo is way out of its league for feed hunting the tuners in them are crap and only slightly better than a Duo, if you want 3 tuners then its the obvious choice but for fringe reception and weak signals give it a wide berth.

I got shut of mine due to the Tuners not being up to scratch as an example i had a TM5402HD in for a Job and on a rainy night i locked onto 666666movies on 7.3° west with the ultimo and picture was breaking up and only a lock of around 34% SNR. I then swapped it out for the 5402 which brought back a healthy 52% snr and a goods signal lock with no breakup, Just goes to show a £150 box can show up a £450 one.

If you want a feed hunting box either get a TM5402HD or the more sensitive DrHDF15 which has a slightly better tuner.

Hiya, i was just about to reply i think im going for it aswell lol, for me it would mainly be for the 3rd tuner, i also like the vu boxes because of the vix images which everyone in the house can use, im unsure again though now lol,

Thanks for the reply, I think i will still go for the ultimo but for feed hunting use another box.

Between the ultimo and the duo i think the ultimo is a tad better and price difference of £150

I will look at the technomate tm5402 for the feeds and use through loop through but to be honest there is only one or 2 feeds i would really ever want to watch, perhaps i can try the vu+ to see if it will lock on the signal and if it does job done, if not get the technomate as well as the ultimo

I dont blame you its a Great box and the 3 tuners make it very desirable, but the major factor for me was the Tuner sensitivity they are just not up to it in the Ultimo or Uno, You will see a few % increase compared to the Duo as i have one but i like to be able to get some weak transponders from 7 west and the odd other satellite and for that you need a feedhunters box sadly the Ultimo for me was not that box.

well from the reports i have seen the tuners are actually a little too sensitive, and strong incoming signals can overwhelm the weaker ones, i have seen a few threads where users have fitted a inline attenuator to "dumb" the signal down a little improving the weaker signals substantially.

Not on mine they did'nt and a lowly £150 technomate 5402HD beat it for tuner sensitivity

I have never had a problem with either my uno or ultimo and they use the exact same tuner cards. as to comparing a TM 5402HD to a ultimo there meant for vastly different markets personally i have yet to meet any one who bought a ultimo simply for blindscan as almost every one will tell you E2 is not the platform for proper blindscan fanatics. saying that in the upcoming ViX 2.4 image there will be a substantially better blindscan feature which includes the ability to scan C-band which no other E2 image can yet do.

mmm intresting, i took the plung and bought it today so it will be hear tomorrow, I have also ordered a tm 5402hd so i can have a play and it should do just what i need and i can let people know i will do some comparisons.. Im 100% sure the technomate will be better for finding feeds as digi pointed out but the ultimo give me the fun of linux with a basic blindscan, and for the really weak and pain in the arse feeds i use the technomate.

Yeah more toys to play with and more toys to throw out the window when i get pi55ed of with them lol

You'll love the ultimo, it's flawless, I've had mine a few months and it's great, only crashed the box a few times and that's messing with streaming to various devices!

There's also a new blackhole image coming out this weekend which is supposed to be a bit different.

3 tuners WHY???? Personally if you need that much tech then I think your life may have taken a wrong turn somewhere! If I'm out I may occasionally need to record something if I miss it it's no biggie if I*'m in I may question the fact that I'm in and thinking about 3 tuners.. Buy a duo and spend the extra on someone special or at least a life ;)

I personally tend to have timers and auto timers set for upto a fortnight in advance as i record what i want to so i can watch it at a time that is more convenient to me. This is where for me the third tuner is invaluable.

Hiya, thats same reason i need one for, apart from football most of the stuff i watch is stuff i have recorded and im forever getting a message saying conflict of timers so i end up having to stop something, also can guarantee when football is on theres timers need recording which is why i would put a mini dish up with 2 feeds going to that and 1 feed going to moving dish set up i have, thanks

Just received my ultimo this morning an wow.... kicks alot of receivers ass straight out of the box, Loaded image on it and going to do scan each sat and will make my own channel list which is all updated. Tidy looking box and tidy display.

Nice and responsive... alot quicker in my opinion then my duo but still love the duo.

Wireless works a treat, hdmi works a treat.

Fruitball is one happy bunny... think i will buy a bottle of whiskey to celebrate, tbh i dont think i will ever watch the tv, i will just try and make funny picons for the front display to laugh and giggly at when im ratarsed :)

I will take some pics when i can grab my camera from my girlfriend.

for people like me ,working 3 cycle shift nearly all the time, it's perfect i can record whatever i want to watch and while i'm at work the misses can watch what she wants to watch it's a great box does everything you throw at it

yup same here, i work 70 to 100 hrs a week and when i'm not at work i'm usually in a field with a shotgun murdering pigeons. in fact i'm at work rite now. so i tend to record every thing i want to watch and leave it until i get the time to watch it.

Triple tuners are great and not a waste of money if you have the money lol. VM cables boxes had triple tuner afaik, even with my sky hd+ box I get timer conflicts but for now I will stick to my DUO. The next hd box I buy must have remote eye capability Personally not bothered about VFD is my box is in IKEA tv cabinet which doesnt have glass!
