virgin media to up prices by £25 per year...they better be kidding

No mate, just upped them with no speed increase.
Just received my letter from them today stating that they are increasing my speed to 100mb and then to 120mb when available. Not going to argue with that even if it costs me an extra £25 a year.

I was close to moving up to 100mb for an extra £12 a month which equals £144 a year.
I see this as a bargain.
 
By my drunken calculations that's under 7p a day.

I'd rant if it was an extra £25 a month but 7p I could deal with. Luckily for me I'm not on top tier and am glad you lot are paying for my double speed :)
 
look the fact of the matter is it was a FREE upgrade, well its not free

i thought to myself they really where an ace company doing this for free but this is the masterplan all along it seems
 
I think the prices would have gone up, even without the upgraded speed.

Bad timing and poor advertising though. They've made a massive marketing balls up. They should have increased the prices, before any announcement.

It does make you think that its all related though. If they had bumped up the prices without any mention of a speed change I suspect lots of customers would have left their services. Instead the people that might have left will now be thinking, well at least I'm going to get a speed upgrade out of it.....maybe this is actually quite clever marketing?

Free for me by all accounts. Like I said earlier I'm drunk :) but as I see it those who get double don't pay, those who get a slight increase pay

Just got the VM letter through the door guys its going up an extra £4.10 per month and the free Evening calls start from 7 o'clock at night not 6 as it used to be. :(
 
Virgin, like all the other providers, put their prices up nearly every year, so why is this a surprise.

This year, at least, they'll be giving something back in the way of double speed, surely that's not something that warrants complaints.

In the past years I haven't seen as many threads complaining about price increases, this one seems like there's a new thread about every day. :)
 
problem is you can cry all you like but you will not get a better deal anywhere else, you can huff and puff and go else where for your BB / Phone / TV but you will pay a similar amount for an inferior service so i suspect once you have looked around you will pay the extra and stay with VM.
 
you have got 30 days from the announcement to cancel your contract even if it has not expired yet.

yes they can do it, its in the T & C, and yes you can get out of your package if you really think it makes that much of a difference. I believe you have 30 days to reject the changes to cancel your contract. check website for details.
 
i'll be cancelling if they change mine,then i will sign up as a new customer to get a better deal,i'm doing away with the phone now as it's hardly used and we mainly only get spam calls these days

i tried that they wouldn't have it, so i reduced my package to the very basic.

J Ending these agreements


1.For services other than premium television services, either Virgin Media Ltd or you may end these agreements at any time (including during or at the end of any minimum period) by giving the other 30 days' notice. You must pay any charges (including usage charges and line rental) up to the end of that 30-day notice period. You may also have to pay an early disconnection fee if your services end within the relevant minimum period as set out in paragraph J2.

2.If you end one or more services (other than premium television services) during the minimum period for such services (other than in the circumstances outlined in section K or paragraph J5), or if you break these agreements and Virgin Media Ltd and/or Virgin Media Payments ends these agreements under section L (including for non-payment of charges) within the minimum period applicable to those services, you must immediately pay (to Virgin Media Payments) an early disconnection fee in respect of each cancelled service by way of compensation to us for ending those services early. You can find details of these charges on the Virgin Media Ltd website. The early disconnection fee will not be more than the charges you would have paid for your chosen services for the remainder of the minimum period less any costs we save, including the cost of no longer providing you with those services.

3.If Virgin Media Ltd and/or Virgin Media Payments:
a. increase their respective charges under these agreements;

b. make significant changes to the services so the services you are entitled to receive in return for the charges you pay are significantly altered or reduced; or
c. make significant changes to the terms and conditions of these agreements (including the other legal stuff),

you may cancel those services affected without penalty by giving Virgin Media Ltd and/or Virgin Media Payments (as applicable) at least 30 days' notice. Such notice must be given within 30 days of the increase in charges or changes to the services or this agreement being notified to you. If you were not notified of these changes in advance, you must give notice of cancellation of the services affected to Virgin Media Ltd and/or Virgin Media Payments (as applicable) within 30 days of receipt of your first bill following such increase in charges. If you do not give notice of cancellation within the specified period, you will be deemed to have accepted the increase in charges and/or the changes to the services and these agreements. You will no longer be able to cancel your services under this paragraph. If you cancel any services in these circumstances, the increased charges will not apply to those services during the 30-day notice period and paragraph J2 will not apply if you cancel before the end of the minimum period.
 
that makes it more clear i was still within a 12myh contract i took out He did say it would cost me 129quid to but out of it, which i told him feck off :)
