@elite786, re your DBOX.
Discovered which one of the two it was
BUT its not as you describe it.
Firstly, the markings on the top of the case:
- LCD Perfect
- Tuner?
- M/B ?
- Needs IFA Flash
- SHOULD BE OK!
The LCD is there and working.
BUT...
1. The Modem has been removed (nothing serious)
2. The piece of plastic at the front that surrounds the buttons is not there???
3. The front buttons have nothing to push into - ie, they dont work.
4. The Card Readers have been removed (again nothing serious)
Also I remember everything being unscrewed when I got it.
Screws are back in place now tho.
The problem with the box is that one of the legs on Flash Chip #2 has been
short-circuited and the chip has gone kaput. The box will take half a flash as
the other chip is fine, but the flash process fails due to Chip #2 being gay.
For that reason, you will never be able to use IFA or FTP to flash the box.
Sector 63 and onwards cannot be written to. The way around this: Write only
the basic information required to boot the box. You will not be able to have
a full image.
I have booted the box. How?! Via the network. It managed to boot up just fine
into Neutrino. However, doing a scan results in only transponders being found
and no channels. Using a services.xml file produces no channels - not even FTA.
My analysis:
- LCD screen is fine and salvagable.
- Tuner is dead - although you could replace with a fresh one
- Motherboard is OK, minus the flash chips.
- SEC chip could be faulty???
- All other on-board chips seem to be OK (including AvIA)
Ways to fix:
- Exchange faulty chip for one from a working M/B
- Hard wire a SD reader and boot from 32MB Nokia MMC card (see below)
- Always boot box from a network share (requires linux)
If you were planning on keeping and using the box for TV; my suggestions:
- Replace tuner with a known working one
- Install internal hard wired SD card reader into box
- Load Commando.v3 onto 32MB Nokia MMC card
- Flash new u-boot to box to allow MMC card boot in place of flash.
If on the other hand you think the box should be scrapped, then these are the
only parts that are salvagable:
- LCD screen
- Sagem Power Supply
- Tuner?? (to be sold as "untested" as I cant say 100% whether its tuner or SEC chip at fault)
Also remember that when the Internal HDD solution is released then you will be
able to boot images off the HDD so you can ignore the faulty flash chips in that
case - but still no sign of release date for that IDE project.
