overgrown trees

i know mate, i think this stuff was that old .....it winked at me lol

WARNING

if any non-qualified person ever gets the chance to use this stuff....DONT

its one of the most lethal chemicals used in the Greenkeeping/Agricultural trade

Cheers
MFCGAVMFC

What about paraquat or diaquat before they were banned?
that stuff was lethal there was no know antidote if you managed to injest it, it just shut down your organs one by one a real slow shitty way to go TBH

too true mate, the buggers will ban everything soon.
Im thinking along the lines of 2 tspoons of Caseron in my flask everyday, then just P*ss on the weeds, lol

We have about 10 case of Caseron and it going to cost a bomb to get rid of cause some wasac never used it before the licience ran out lol

come over to my place and put it on the trees i have ,i wont say nowt ;)

Stick to brushwood killer or stripping the bark trick m8 much safer, SEPA would trace that much caseron from the water table right back to your door lol
gone are the old days of digging a big hole to get rid of your old pesticides

i live on an estate, which has trees along the side of the road about 20 meters apart,i got a tree more or less on the boundry with next door neighbour, now i want to get a sat dish up but the trees will block the sat signal, can i get the council to chop them down a few feet of the top,to enable me to recieve a sat
signal, the trees been here over 30 years started off about 8 foot tall, now they
over top of the house, its not just the tree outside me house, theres a few down the street (which is facing south)

you need permission ,if the tree is damaged thats your only way to get it down . you have more chance of knocking down your own home than cutting a good tree down ,its listed like old buildings

Not entirely true, so lets look at the facts.

Permission:

Depends whether you own the land the tree is on?

The Landowner in most cases if they are street trees is the District council, or in some cases the housing association/landlord.

Do you live in a Conservation area?

Does the tree have a TPO (tree Preservation Order) on it?

If it has then you have little chance of getting it removed or taken down.

The Tree officer at the council will have all this info:

Most trees are tagged if owned by Local or District Authorities with a number on it for identification.

Always Qoute this number if it has one.

Its possible to carry out work on trees with a TPO, it just has to be done on certain grounds.

Usually safety, disease or in the best intrests of preserving the tree as a Specimen.

All would have to be done with a proper professional Arb survey and the findings / redults submitted to the Tree officer and work agreed and signed off.

The Landowner has a duty of care to ensure the safety of the general public and that could be you if its on your land.

Trees that are on your land that dont already have a TPO, then up to a point its yours to do what you like.

Unless you live in a Conservation area, then again there are rules and regs as to what you can do.

Again you Local Council/ District Council Tree Officer holds all this info.

Just Remember that Trees draw water from the ground and if they are close to and within influincing distance of a building, then be very care full "Just cutting them down!"

Best to get a Surveyer to look at them, as if it has an adverse effect on your proprty or your neighbours then your in hot water.

Usually from the mortgage lender and your insurance company if removal causes subsidance.

Most people want trees pruned or removed under their missguided theory that they have a legal "Right to Light" .

To actually prove this gets expensive with the use of Light meters at different times of day by experts.

You would need to prove its having an adverse effect on your health, mainly your eye sight to get anywhere.

I come across this all the time and in most cases the Council will dig their heels in after taking legal advice and see who has the best Legal team.

So for all those People who have problem trees, do yourself a favour and get Professional advice before you Go to Argos and buy a £79 chainsaw and attempt what may cost you alot more money if things go wrong !

Thats why Some Companies have Liability insurance up to about £3,000000

If you think domestic Arb work is a Legal nightmare, try Doing Powerline clearance, lol

we have 15 of those laylandi fffing trees and they are completly blocking my light out and i can not get a sky signal..i reckon they are 50ft each and still growning ..the problem is who owns them? we have only been in the house three months and the prevous owner told me it was next door but most of the trees are in my boundry and about 6 are not...my next door neibour is a tesco and i have complained to them about it but no action as yet...we still need the trees up as they screen us from the ugly building but the need to come down to 10ft or i could fence if they died...does anyone have a rougth idea of how much a tree costs to cut back...or any other imfo on exterminating these anti social trees,,,my garden is never dry because of the shade..]

I have finally had some spare time and been looking round this great site..
I did not know that it contained so much good information.

I have the same problem as goeffthechef, can anyone tell me about how much I should expect to pay.

My trees are about 30ft high and are in my garden they run about 30ft along one boundry.

I only want them to be cut back to about 8ft high so that I can keep them under control myself.

Hi Davey H
I will be careful with my reply, for the same reason i did not reply to Geoffs post for the same reasons.

TBH it would be very difficult to give an idea of price without actually coming out and looking at a job from a professional point of view.

So my advice would be to get some local qualified and reputable tradesman in for a quotation.

Get at least 3 prices, before you decide.

The best reputation is word of mouth, so ask around and see if your neighbours or work mates have had a similar work done.

The main problem with cheap and silly prices given for jobs, is usually they are inexperienced and uninsured should anything go wrong.

The fact they are inexperienced, means the likelyhood of something going wrong is very high!

Which could result in damage to yours or your neighbours property and the risk of serious injury to themselves in the process.

So when you get your prices and think "How much!", there is a good reason for charging a decent rate for the job .

There is the Cost of the training, Specialised equipment, sometimes costing thousands and the all important insurance (which i can assure you does cost Thousands of pounds).

Then factor in the cost of getting rid of the waste and the fact that you have to licensed to carry the waste .

The last conifer reduction job like yours that i did with a mate cost the owner £2000.

It was a huge job which involved , climbing, taking the conifers down in sections with ropes etc and chipping straight into the back of a transit tipper to take the waste away.

It took 3 of us 2 days, so like i said a big job.

Or you get the Local Gardener/Window cleaner in and get him to do it for £500 and the possibilty that he may put 40ft (2 ton) of conifer through a Conservetry on the first fell.

Anyway hope my advice helps in some way.

Wow...

I did not have a clue how much it would be mate.
I was toying with the idea of trying it myself a conifer at a time and hiring the platform and a shredder.
It might be a bigger job than I thought... Better get saving, but I will take your advice and get 3 quotations.
I never mentioned that I also have a Cherry tree in the garden also and that looks about 10 feet taller than the conifers and I need that pruning as I get cherries all over the garden when they start and ripen.

Hmm I guess I really need to think out my priorites on this as it's a house I have just bought last year and I would really like a Block paving drive on it, but I cannot afford both at the same time. I was quoted over £2000 for that as well.

Thank you for your input I do appreciate it.
