Hi all, been browsing for a few weeks and just donated.

Ok, got my pre-flashed SB5100i with Sigma X2.

Had a quick scan for MAC's from a mate's earlier but could only find a 2MB for now.

Was gonna test this and see how it goes, then force config file if I needed.

Apparently it was 'up to date' security wise as of last week.

So:

I logged in at 192.168.100.1:1337

Input MAC (my mates MAC 20MB AND ALSO The 2MB MAC)

rebooted modem

Every light comes on except 'Online' which just slowly flashes and of course 'Standby'

IPCONFIG gives a 192.168.100.11 addy.

Cable should be fine as its ok before/after on my subbed modem.

Any help greatly appreciated, thanks

Hi And welcome :)

One thing you may want to check is the Downstream (DS) Frequency.

Frequency Plan: European PAL I/B/G
Upstream Channel ID: 3
Frequency (Hz): 331000000
DHCP Server Enabled
The SURFboard cable modem can be used as a gateway to the Internet by a maximum of 32 users on a Local Area Network (LAN). When the Cable Modem is disconnected from the Internet, users on the LAN can be dynamically assigned IP Addresses by the Cable Modem DHCP Server. These addresses are assigned from an address pool which begins with 192.168.100.11 and ends with 192.168.100.42. Statically assigned IP addresses for other devices on the LAN should be chosen from outside of this range

Log says

Configuration File CVC Validation Failure

TLV-11 - Illegal Set operation failed

Ok so that frequency meens you have a modem that was connected to a true VM provider .

Are you in a NTL area ?

Cheers

I assume so, I was on NTL before VM took over.

OK you might want to try changing the frequency to 402750000

Here is some info for you

NTL original areas DOCSIS 402750000 Hz
NTL ex-C&W areas (exc Westminster) EuroDOCSIS 586750000 Hz
Blueyonder DOCSIS 331000000 Hz

How do I change this?

There is no 'change'setting as shown in the Haynes manual.

Do I need to type something in 'webshell'?

thanks for your input though chief

Na there is an easy way to do this

open http://192.168.100.1:1337

make sure the change config is set to enable

you may have to refresh your webpage a few times and re boot your modem

Now when you goto http://192.168.100.1 and the config page you should be able to make changes to the frequency

Cool eh ?

Ps Added you

Changed it to

402750000

Still the same.

Make sure the annex mode is set to 3 that config page has a habbit of changing it, I also had freqs set correct and couldnt figure out what the hell it was till I realised :)

Also make sure you put the correct upstream channel in.

How do I do this? And whats the correct upstream (obviously you wont know! lol) How do I find out?

Thanks for looking

Have you got this sorted yet m8 ?

Also i'm curious as to what you mean by the following:

Input MAC (my mates MAC 20MB AND ALSO The 2MB MAC)

Do you mean you entered the 20MB MAC as your main addy and the 2MB MAC as your USB MAC?

If so that may be the problem as your USB MAC should be +1 of your main MAN e.g.:

MAIN 00:00:00:00:00:00
USB 00:00:00:00:00:01

:)

Input MAC (my mates MAC 20MB AND ALSO The 2MB MAC)

Why have you entered two MAC's ?

Please explain how you have done this too?

All you need to do is goto the sigma page and enter in the working mac you have and don't forget to enter it like this XX:XX:XX:XX etc and not XXXXXXXX as this will not work. Do not enter anything in the config filename box or TFTP address box leave these empty as the modem will pick up the TFTP address etc on its own. If you enter the wrong address you won't get online the same as if you enter in the wrong config file name so as i say leave them all blank as you don't need to enter this info.

Bit of confusion there.

I used a mates PC (different UBR) to scan for macs.

I got a 2mb mac and tried that........nothing

I then tried his MAC and I got the errors above.

Right about to shoot off to work but......Here is a slight insight.

On my subbed modem - my downstream shows as 331000000 Hz

Not sure how relevant that is as my 5100i is set for 402750000

Ok so here goes the MAC side of things.

MAC 1 - A MAC from another county.....Online light shows steady, no internet access but assigned an IP in ipconfig.

MAC 2 - A mates 20MB MAC from another UBR........Get the CVC Validation Error above, online light flashes - obtains config file successfully but then errors out

MAC 3 - One scanned fom same mate using DHCP force, same issues as MAC 2

MAC 4 - My subbed MAC placed in 5100i - again same error as 2/3

You'll want to set anything you put on your line to the same downstream frequency as your subbed ;)

:)
