My brother recently moved to a new area but dont know anyone who could give/trade him a mac to get online with, his old SB5101e no longer works :( and my macs do him no good.
Any help please?

i do think that the macs he sniffs with the dw sniffer will work for him clive i am using one that i sniffed with that give it a try m8 cant do any harm m8

Ooops :)

I was a little tipsy last night lol, hence the inappropriate post above which i should have posted in the mac trades thread lol.
Sorry chaps.

The thing is he moved after sniffing those macs in his old place so his old macs and my macs no longer work for him as he moved out of the area.
Now he has a modem (not working) and internet withdrawal symptoms lol.

I was thinking he could sniff with this new sniffer, even if he didnt have a valid connection already :/
(I know but I was a bit out of it last night lol)

I'll get me coat :( (lol)

right ive got a 4200 surfboard modem which i cloned 2 yrs ago and was going great up untill this week so im now looking for some new macs, stumbled across this and was woundering if i put my mac in(the 1 ive had for 2 years)will this pick anything up or only 4200 in my area as the 4200 modems have never been issued around here in swansea?

If it's a 4200 MAC then it 'may' do.

I say may because 250's have been issued in my area and when I put a 250 MAC through it sometimes I get nothing. ANd if I try another 250 MAC I can get loads.

AFAIK all the configs are on all the servers so if it's a 'good' MAC then you should get something. If not change the 3rd & 4th digit from the end and try again.

e.g. Base MAC = 00:00:00:00:00:00
00:00:00:00:01:00
00:00:00:00:02:00
00:00:00:00:03:00
00:00:00:00:04:00
00:00:00:00:05:00
00:00:00:00:06:00
00:00:00:00:07:00
00:00:00:00:08:00
00:00:00:00:09:00
00:00:00:00:0a:00
00:00:00:00:0b:00
00:00:00:00:0c:00
00:00:00:00:0d:00
00:00:00:00:0e:00
00:00:00:00:0f:00
00:00:00:00:20:00
00:00:00:00:21:00

And so on. But remember only letters 'a' through 'f' are supported in hex ;)

You'd be surprised how many MACs you can get from 1 lol

Let us know how you get on.

:)

P.S. Maybe Solster could include this as an option in the next release? ;)

when doing a brute force scan with DW sniffer, does it change the mac on the modem at all
or does it change any settings on the modem or affect the modem in any way.
my guess is no, but i just wanted to check just in case.

e.g. Base MAC = 00:00:00:00:00:00
00:00:00:00:01:00
00:00:00:00:02:00
00:00:00:00:03:00
00:00:00:00:04:00
00:00:00:00:05:00
00:00:00:00:06:00
00:00:00:00:07:00
00:00:00:00:08:00
00:00:00:00:09:00
00:00:00:00:0a:00
00:00:00:00:0b:00
00:00:00:00:0c:00
00:00:00:00:0d:00
00:00:00:00:0e:00
00:00:00:00:0f:00
00:00:00:00:20:00
00:00:00:00:21:00

never could figure that out :)

when i finally get the app finished (its coming together piece by piece, had to start fresh coz i lost the original source code :() you wont need to enter anything, it will automatically grab available macs from the gateway.

think of it as the lazy man's scanner :) of course the option to enter a mac will still be available if you get bored waiting lol

the scanner will also dynamically load a device driver to create a virtual network card, and therefore, hiding the mac thats bruteforcing the network

Interesting.

Would it be possible to just grab a certain list of MAC's and configs though for say a 250 instead of everything? Or even SB4200 MAC's and config's for that matter?

:)

im not sure, if u know of a way to tell a 250 mac from a 4200 mac let me know, only thing i can tell from a mac is the manufacturer of the NIC

They all start a certain way. Like you said it goes off the NIC (MAC) Addy ;)

ambit 250: 00:14:A4:Cx:xx:xx , 00:0e:9b:fx:xx:xx pure ntl

i'm sure theres others?

solster, thanks for your hard work! this looks like a great program so I'm gutted that I can't use it. Whenever I enter a mac other than the one that I'm currently using on my modem I get an error message. I've uploaded the log for you, I hope it's a simple thing that you can fix.

that is just a format error mate, make sure the mac u enter is 6 bytes long and uses only characters A-F.

i.e. 00:11:22:AA:BB:CC

if you still having trouble, post the exact format and mac that you are entering thats crashing the app and i will have a better look :)

Thanks for the quick reply mate. If it was just a simple format error I wouldn't have spent yesterday evening banging my head against my desk trying to figure out what I was doing wrong :err:

I'll send you a pm with the list of macs that I was trying to use.

hello, im new to this, i have a chipped modem and my mate next door to me has a chipped 1 too, he needs a new mac so what do i do to get him 1? do i just open this program and leave it running then after its found some macs i swap the macs with some1 a few miles away from me? thanks

i left mac sniffer running all night and i got a list of physical addresses, only 3 of them have a bootfile and gateway, so does that mean that those 3 are valid mac addresses? thanks
