[INFO/TIP] Dbox Online Media Streamer

A shame that I can't Edit Post's after I have done some more testing ...

I forgot to mention in my latest Guide that after you set everything and rebooted the PC you will need to start the Apache Server via:

Click on Start
Click on Run
type C:\xampplite\apache_start.bat and hit enter

Of course you can browse to it in Explorer or even add a shortcut to the start up menu to have it run all the Time when the PC is restarted.

You will need to start the Server before you are able to Browse the Content via the VLC Option !

I could not get the BBC iPlayer to work last night but I tried YouTube and had sound !

After more testing I shall include this in my Helpfile and maybe Post a PDF File

All I get on iplayer is Buffering only.... as well.

Works great for Apple Movie Trailers.

I have not seen Freddy Frog in the Forums for a while but I shall let him know

It might also be worth pointing out that the initial onlinestreamsV0.3.exe must be extracted in C:\, otherwise Apache will not start. If you want to put it all in another directory (or another drive) you will need to edit some of the Apache config files.

Done here:

Download the latest (06.04.2008) Version from: http://download.berlios.de/onlinestr...treamsV0.3.exe

After downloading (12mb) install into C: and you should have a xampplite directory in C:\

Also on iPlayer could you make a screenshot of the VLC Webinterface via http:\\127.0.0.1:8080 and the VLC Control should show up

The buffering only is probably not a fault with the php - instead a problem with movieplayer on my dbox and/or the quality of my network connection (a wireless B network connection). I am also having issues streaming some divx files from the same PC to the dbox so I reckon I have a general movieplayer problem.

The BBC iPlayer wont stream at all, but Aplle Movie Trailers and YouTube and some of the German stuff does.

I am just not near my Sat Box to make the screenshot

OK, I see the following errors in the VLC Web interface:
Unable to open 'http://192.168.1.100:8083/requests/scripts/iplayer_stream.php?pid=b00b2qg8'
Unable to open 'http://192.168.1.100:8083/requests/scripts/iplayer_stream.php?pid=b009x241'

i played an apple trailer, then tried the iplayer and got these errors. Looks like there is a problem with the script!

I just read these errors properly. The URL that is failing above is trying to request iplayer_stream.php. Either this file was missed when sending this stuff over, or BBC - onDemand.php needs to be called iplayer_stream.php. I tried making a copy of the file with that name and I make progress - the VLC errors go, but nothing being streamed.

I do now think we need the file called "iplayer_stream.php" to make this work.

abaddon

iplayer_stream.php is in requests/scripts/inc. I edited the BBC - onDemand.php script and progress made but still no streaming. My network/movieplayer may be the issue now. I've attached the edited version if somebody else wants to give it a go.

In movie player settings under streaming server you use the ip of the pc that vlc is running as a service on.

Movieplayer needs the ip address of your pc. It also needs the port to be set to 8083 (it's normally 8080).

In your browser try hitting the url of your pc (put your ip in there) - http://youripaddress:8083/requests/scripts

If you do not see a directory listing of the scripts, then your apache server has a problem or has not been started.

What error exactly are you getting?

abaddon

Its ok sorted one problem i can now see the listings etc but now it just hangs at buffering hmm 100mb network wired so im guessing there is gonna be a setting I need to change not found it yet...

none i have tried have worked just sits there buffering can see its getting the files to play but doesnt play them to the dbox :)

Still not managed to stream BBC but youtube & one or two of the others work ?
attached is the vlc message

Been trying thie over the last few days but can't get it to work in a few areas (based on PT-1s "let's get this rollin" post.

When I try
Then click on Start, then on Run and type CMD and hit enter.

after this type cd C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC and hit enter

then vlc.exe -I ntservice --ntservice-install --ntservice-options "--sout-transcode-fps 25.0000" --ntservice-extraintf "http" and hit enter

VLC does not start with the PC and is not running in the background. I modified the startup folder and put
vlc.exe -I --ntservice --ntservice-install --ntservice-options "--sout-transcode-fps 25.0000" --ntservice-extraintf "http"
which started VLC when the PC started. I also went into VLC Options, Sout, Transcode and set this to 25.0000 fps

Let me know if I have gone wrong yet.

Followed the rest of the post with no other changes and I can get the dBox to show the folders for the php scripts, however when I click OK on the folder a progress bar appears but doesn't update or show any progress, then it goes back to the folder view again. Any ideas????

I'm currently using bitdefender 10 internet security that blocks some ports invisibly but before I remove it and get something else does what I have done seem right. For info Bitdefender 10 also blocks uPnP media streaming so I can't get my media player library over the network (but thats another thread).

just a note that might be useful for some, I followed PT's instructions to get VLC HTTP server autostarting on boot, and although the service was added to my startup service list it was not started by default, I right clicked on my computer, clicked on manage, expanded services and applications, clicked on services and then found the VLC service, I then right clicked and started the service !

@ chris the way to check is to point your browser at this addy

http://127.0.0.1:8080/ or just click on the link

if you get VLC all is good if not, you probably need to do what I have done

PS im still narrowing it down but the apache server is not compatible with one of the following as it is trying to use the same incoming port 0.0.0.43 or something

ORB
TVversity
Skype
Z2software remote PC

it's pretty cool but has some 16:9 issues but im looking into that
