Dismantle Portabl HDD

I'm looking at building myself a new system using Mini-ITX case and was looking at a 500gb
2.5inch hard drive ,
there round about the £100 mark but I was thinking , could I buy portable drive like this one

and just take the hard drive out of that ,it works out at less than half the price,
anybody tried anything like this

yes mate you can, my western digital 2.5 external hard drive give up recently, i purchased another hard drive, took it to bits and popped it straight back in, just watch when your taking it apart obviously, be careful not to break anything, the enclosure for the western digital 1 i have just popped off from the bottom, no screws at all!

yes you can strip the drive out and use it internally. though you will void all warranty
