i bloke i know got into drugs, got messed up, went into rehab and has now got his own flat, and gets £300 PER WEEK (disablity living allowance and benefit) THATS MORE THAN I EARN FOR WORKING, PAYING MORTGAGE BILLS ETC. HOW IS THIS RIGHT, I CAN UNDERSTAND DISABILITY ALLOWANCE FOR DISABLED PEOPLE WHO PAY FOR CARERES ETC BUT NOT SOMEONE WHO HS MESSED THEMSELVES UP WITH DRUGS THIS IS SELF INFLICTED!

IT TAKES THE PISS!, I MIGHT JUST JACK IN MY JOB AND DIG OUT THE CRACK PIPE!

They always get around this amount of money and a nice wee place to live but they get given this money so as they can drink themselves to death or die of a drugs overdose. You give a drug addict enough pills he is gonna kill himself and the same goes for an alcoholic if they have any money they will buy all the drink they can.

hmm interesting comments, so you think its a plot by the government, give them money to get them wasted and then in the long run we will be rid of them eh!

i suppose it stops em going out mugging old ladies to get their hit.

I dont know if its a plot by the government but its only alcos and drug addicts that get this sort of money and they get it very easy, I cant think of another explanation on giving them £300 per week when they dont deserve or need it.

sargieboy i'm sorry to hear that, please note i am not digging at genuine people who do require carers and help, its a dig at the the lazy scammers who get more money than me for doing nothing for a condition that is self inflicted.

get back onto the dla people and make a complaint, i expect it works on a points scheme or something and the people who make the decisions have no experience of looking after disabled people, prehaps they are drug dealers on the side? hmm theres food for thought!

appeal it if still in time or re apply and dont stop
they normally turn down everyone the 1st or even 10th time

dont read two much in too some you think shouldent get getting

the truth is they probly had a someone who knows how to fill in the form right do it for them.

and are mostly as deserving as you for it. Never apply for dla on your own unless you are 200% shaw of all the rules and know what your doing.

or you wont get f all

I know a lot about as I am a carer for my partner and 3 of my friends are wheel chair bound.

I can tell you now someone with mental health problems coming out of rehab in perfectly intiteled to DLA

the same no doubt as you were.

I wish people would take the time to check their facts before posting stuff that encourages resentment.

Disability Living Allowance is in two parts - the care component and the mobility component. You may be able to get just one component - or both.

Care component Weekly rate Highest rate £62.25 Middle rate £41.65 Lowest rate £16.50

Mobility component Weekly rate Higher rate £43.45 Lower rate £16.50

I agree, but to be fair to the OP, he said that the "guy got £300 in DLA and Benefits." so bearing that in mind getting DLA both parts at higher rate, Then full Housing benefit with a disability premium on top, Incapacity benefit at the highest rate ( I dont think he'd get JSA as he would be unemployable) HIgh disability premiums,Full council tax benefit, free prescriptions, etc and Im sure there would be a few others he could fiddle. it all adds up to a decent income.

IMO it is wrong that people who have inflicted harm or injury upon there selfs are awarded when genuine cases are ignored. Im not saying they shouldnt get it but it appears to be a lottery when it comes to being awarded.

My problem is with people making judgements on hearsay and without full knowledge of circumstances.

This often leads to racism, xenophobia, and the demonizing of certain groups within our society.

Who knows what problems this guy has and what it was that led him into drug addiction in the first place.

The edge.
i think drug addicts and alcoholics (wether still using or after rehab etc) should get basic rent n council tax and basic JSA, thats it.

so theyre addicted, so what, they chose to keep using/drinking untill they were addicted and i have absolutley no sympathy at all for them

theres people out there with illnesses that they had no choice to have, and they dont get half the treatment that some junkie gets

let them rot i say, lifes what you make of it, and if you choose to hide in a needle or a bottle then thats your choice, but dont moan when the high wears off and reality kicks back in cos you cant get another fix
