Tonight there's a TV program (Channel 4, 9pm) about the benefit cap, £500 a week, it comes into Yorkshire somewhere around October this year.

Now don't take this wrong, it's not a pop at benefits claimants.

It's more that most people around here who are working haven't a hope in hell of getting anywhere near £500 a week?

Your thoughts peeps.

Ach I don't know. There's something wrong somewhere but it isn't necessarily the fault of all those who claim benefit.

Property is theft and all that.

Now the benefit of a cap that is much simpler: keeps your head warm in cold weather, keeps the sun off when it's hot.

On Ilkley Moor sans one's headwear.

I'm sure the Roma will love £500 a week in 2014.

Im a bit nieve to all this benefit stuff. Been very fortunate over the years as to never need it, I suppose...

What does this £500 quid cover?

Is it a pot that includes various other benefits??

Housing/council tax and cash in pocket??

Im only asking because I take home less than this and my wage covers just about everything... rent/c-tax/gas/elec/water/car.... the list seems endless lol

I suppose my point is... why £500?

On the first point - good shot, well done :)

On the second, I dare not comment...

Everyone watching?

Hmm, the old back injury one... I'd put sensors in those sticks to make sure people needed to use them.

No way is she short of food.
Naughty, naughty ;)

We are discussing the cap. @D1GG3R - it includes everything - all your benefits added up can't be more than £500 a week, end of.

That's £24,000 a year (or around £32,000 per year to a basic rate taxpayer) - many of my neighbours have no hope of ever getting any where near that while working?

I think @Spectre referred to a certain 'larger lady'? Personally, I'm spitting ****ing feathers (sorry mods and sensitive souls). It's a bloody disgrace. I DO want to help people who are on a bad streak but ffs...

She clearly doesn't want to work, she could have done call centre work surely.

Provided we could find a telephone handset light enough! Happily Mick added some rules to post parsing!

The real reason for the cap is to get people on benefit to move out of large houses especially in the south east where it is impossible to rent a house for less than £700 a week to the desolate empty spaces in the north east!!! or is it the north west you Know where the tories cant get a vote
