Smokers!

Hope you are not implying that the politicians have vested interests, especially so close to local elections never mind a general election...

England can look forward to the BO smells, the tobacco used to hide in the pubs!!!! When the smoking ban comes into force, not to mention the smell emanating from the lavatories.
:ASSFLASH:

what has 'BO smell' or lavatory smell got to do with anything LOL, I doubt anyone has ever reported coming home with those smells in their clothing that arent their own? I think the 'smell' point is that 'clean' people dont want other peoples stinks.

Also it has been argued (by the smokers) here that pubs are for drinking, not food or for kids or whatever else they offer. The arguement is that this just isnt true anymore, its a view maybe from 100 years past. Most pubs search extra profit to survive making them offer food or kid areas or 'games' pool leagues etc, whatever else- they choose this; culture has changed meaning that far less go to pubs just to get drunk, its more for social reasons & more; local consumer demand drives what pubs offer and not 1 individual that wants to get away from all children & go to get drunk alone. A pub is NOT just a place for drinking and it is publicans choice & creation.

Guys, I have a hatred of this crap government & stupid laws, but I dont see any valid points from smokers as to why the majority should have to put up with something that is simply not wanted. The law (even if it goes to far) has been made purely because smokers would never voluntarily change their ways- you all feel its fine to do what you do to others, and that is simply wrong in modern life.

next thing
BARMY Euro MPs are demanding new laws to stop cows and sheep PARPING.

Their call came after the UN said livestock emissions were a bigger threat to the planet than transport.

The MEPs have asked the European Commission to “look again at the livestock question in direct connection with global warming”.

The official EU declaration demands changes to animals’ diets, to capture gas emissions and recycle manure

Its not question of it being right or wrong. Its the fact that there has been no attempt at any kind of compromise. In pubs there WERE alternatives to an outright ban, what about having a separate area for smokers with proper ventilation.
And kids in pubs is wrong. A child has no place in a pub and your argument that far less go to pubs to get drunk, while valid, isn't essentially true. There will always be people who get drunk, fight and be abusive in pubs and this is no enviroment for a child.

that is take the piss whats next if u work from home u cant smoke in ur house @ anytime....it starting to look like there's more f#*king freedom in cuba than there is here with all these bullsh*t rules and regulations
you cant smoke in your own home 1 hour before anyone comes to your house to do any work and you cannot smoke until they leave

Quit for 5 whole days now after 15 years of smoke and was dreading it - turned out it was actually not too hard really. must have really wanted to quit after all - bring on the ban: whip :

Calm Down, Calm Down!! lol

My partners prego so I'm happy about the ban so we can go out properly without worrying about it being too smokey, we both gave up when she fell preg so I total understand why smokers are so upset about the ban :(. In the long run it will be a good thing, it will encourage you to give up and improve your health and bank balance, don't know how Mr Brown is gonna recoup the lost revenue? Motorists again probably!
my wife and i are both smokers in Scotland and have had the ban for a while now and it is not so much that you cannot smoke in the pub but after you have been outside for a cig you come back and find that the bar staff have removed your drinks and you've lost your table to someone else the bars should provide signs to put on the table to say you are only away for a cig. p.s hope the baby is healthy concrats

I have smoked for a long time, i can fully understand greivences aired by non smokers particulaly in resteraunts, buses, cars etc and am happy to respect them. However, i cannot see any harm if a smoke room is provided at work and think that smoking in pubs should be at the landlords descretion, have smoking and non-smoking pubs which are signed, then if someone does'nt want to be around smokers they can choose not to and visa versa. If the government want a non smoking country then perhaps they should have banned it years ago instead of taking all the revenue generated by it, who knows, maybe i would'nt have started!

Why don't they stub out cigarettes on themselves, then they can feel your pain. I can;t wait for the ban either.

im in scotland as you know the ban is already here , but im a taxi driver and if i get caught smokin in my car be it workin or not because im a taxi i get fined £200 and if any 1 gets caught smokin in my car they get fined £80, also the powers that b have a meter and cant test my car anytime , if they put the meter in my car and it detects cig smoke ,..you guessed it i get fined £200 , also in scotland if you have a public servant worker visiting your house u are told that u are not allowed to smoke 2 hours b4 they visit , and it is also illegal to smoke in a bus shelter (3 sided ) or to smoke in a close or a foye in a multistory flat all these places have become illegal to smoke in now and they now have attendants on the street who will fine u £50 if u stub your cigy out on the street , SO BEWARE ENGLAND u are just getting what we have become use to ?

and when have u ever seen a public servant turn up on time ? looks like u will have to stop smokeing the whole day to wait for them doh

warlord

Been there, done that

In Ireland, before the ban, there were people saying all kinds of things like "I'll smoke in the pub if I want to, nobody's gonna stop me", and rants about the government taking away our right to smoke ("right" to smoke, I didn't know that was a God given right to smoke in other peoples faces!).

Anyway, time has past and the vast majority of smokers have accepted the ban. People still go outside for a quick smoke with their pint, and some pubs have built beer gardens, so you can still sit with pint-in-hand, smoke-in-other-hand if you want. You might get a bit cold, or wet depending on the weather, but thems the breaks!!

From what I hear its Scotlands Bingo halls that have taken the hardest blow, loads have closed. I dont really give a sh*t bout Bingo tho lol.

Tax??????

If the ban persuades people to give up smoking en masse...and the proposed half pint max limit of alcohol will mean that we won't even be able to drink more than a half bottle of wine at home and then drive to work next day...may also mean more people abstaining...than where the fwiggin he** is the lost millions of tax going to come from?

Smokers tax revenue (I am told) already pays for the NHS and half of the education budget....so where is 'greedy Gordon mk2' going to squeeze the blood ..sorry... money from?
