Am I being unreasonable ? GRRRRR !

Maybe this should be in rant room but want feedback

I have lived at my current house for around 4 years now, mid terrace with corner house one side and another mid terrace the other.
The mid terrace side the lady is fine, good as gold and we get on well with her.

The other side, corner side is a scottish bloke... and he is just a fooking twat !


Moans over my kids speaking to his, when his kids are at their bedroom window calling mine !!! Moans that I have had 1/4 of a ton bag of ballest in front garden for two months left over from shed base but keeping to do another base...

an tonight, about 30 mins ago I started to drill a 8mm hole in wall that joins onto his side with a bosch NO hammer drill bit.... at slow rpm with a cordless drill.... BANG BANG BANG on front door. So I open door to be greeted with.. "its 20 to seven at night on a Sunday evening"... I say yea ? Why the fook you drilling he says.. I reply that I am using expensive drill bits to not cause any more noise than needed... and he just goes on moaning about him having a job and that "normal" people have jobs... implying that I do not ! no I dont, he is right... I am at Full time uni as a Student nurse... I told him this and he says, "your a glorified piss and shit cleaner"... just goes to show how ignorant of the world he is outside his little bubble... !

Now, what I want to know.... using NO hammer function, low rpm, no vibration at all.... is it unreasonable for me to make 1 hole before he bangs on door ? only had 4 holes to make FFS.... !


going to call my council on Tuesday and file a harassment complaint, because I am sick of his constant moaning over trivial things. We just feel like moving now ! sick of it... I think we will move actually, because if we dont I can see me doing him damage !

If you had been dilling my wall, I'd give it about an hour before gently asking how much you had to do. Drilling 4 holes should be acceptable to anyone.

funny thing is im ma mate of rs2k..

and know this perticular neighbour,

iover the years hes been fine.. lent us some tools to get the drive done, he even trailored a car for me.. this has come over the last 6-12months.

his mussies and kids are fine.. he on the other hand depends which way the wind is blowing to what moods hes in.

see what the counil says mate, but you know was well as i do, you will get more sence out of the homless guy down the road then you will outta B&D

I very nearly did mate, But I have CCTV that was on and kids at front door with me as misses is out ! He was warned last time that I would drop him next time he come knocking... he has not said as word since in about 4 months, maybe he forgot !


I think the soloution is at 0801 tomorrow I will use my Hitachi sds drill to make the hole, will be so much better use of my time.... ! save drilling a hole carefully and with as least noise as possible an things taking me much longer.

I am right in thinking I can start DIY at 8am till 10pm if I had the need ? (not that I really would as I would be pissed if someone did that to me - oh hang on HE DID !) --- Just to elaborate on that, he had his front room and other bits done in summer.... constant banging and scrapping, drilling, kango etc... for 4 days ! did I complain, NOPE!

The drilling would annoy me but you have to live with the fact that people need to do these things. Before 7 on a Sunday is not unreasonable ( although I would be annoyed I'd accept it ). Anything after 9 is not good and 10 is unacceptable. He might just be having a bad day. I have many

Agree mate I will not do anything past 8pm, even if unfinished... will make safe and leave until following day. I don't as a rule go past 1930.

I can understand if he has infants or someone ill in the house but round here generally it is accepted that before 8pm on a work/school night is not a problem.

I would warn my ajoining neighbour if I was going to be doing a lot of DIY but putting 4 screws in the wall, no.

He has kids same as me mate think youngest is 2 now, but they run around till 11pm shouting every night so deffo not disturbing them lol

I have a neighbour who vacuums his car after 10pm during the week. I want to kill him sometimes but since he's cleaning his taxi I live with it. Better than him doing it a 6am and waking me up on rest days
It's all about give and take. I try to be quiet, as I like others to be quiet but sometimes you just can't avoid it.

simple as this, drill your hole , drill it as long and as loud as you need to to get the hole drilled, regardless of day , in my mind anytime is fine as long as it isnt 9am and after 10pm, if i was doing a lot of drilling, banging etc etc id knock on and give the neighbours a heads up.

just drill, when he comes knocking answer your door, ask him what his problem is, tell him your not being unreasonable but if he likes you can take it round the corner out of the way of prying eyes and sort it out properly.

end of the day its about give and take, i occasionally make a bit of noise at weekends, but so do my neighbours, i dont shout at them, they dont shout at me, if it got unreasonable a civilised request would not go unheeded. i`m not a tw@t i dont treat my neighbours as tw@ts and dont expect them to treat me as one.

enough is enough mate, sooner or later just ask him to forget what little insignificant misdemeanor he has come round to complain about and get to the point, whats at the bottom of it all?


thats what i would do, four holes in a wall is no excuse to bang on your neighbours door regardless of day or time, if we where all like that we would have holes in the door from the amount of knocking........

Whilst the guy is being a twat.....I have always believed in "If we can sort it out amicably" where neighbours are concerned then your life is just sooo much easier. Maybe he is on a downer....maybe home troubles who knows....If I were in your shoes I would invite him for a beer to clear the air. Talk to the bloke ect.
Don't take this post wrong as I believe that you are completely right in the fact that he is being unreasonable. If all is fails then either lump him....or report his unreasonable attitude to the council if he ever crosses the line. But the easiest option is just "make the peace" and try to find out what his problem is.
