XP Password log on?

My niece has a problem with her lappy and Im after a way round it if possible.

She dropped her lappy and now it asks for a password log-on which is strange as no passwords are set.

I've checked in the BIOS and passwords are dissabled, its just for loggin on to xp it seems.

Any ideas?

Update:

I got it sorted in the end by a complete re-format etc.

I thought the HD was fecked but it was ok after a scandisk op'


I just thought I'd let you guys know what I did in the end to get this lappy sorted.

Sounds to me like whoever set the machine up originally had a domain setup, hence if connecting to the domain now password would be needed, but in the abscence of the domain controller, a password was required. No idea why anyone would want a domain controller on a home network though! Glad you got it sorted, even if the fix was a little extreme!
