Xbox360 games on virgin newsgroups

Sorry i disagree from what i know about the way VM is being run they dont do the best things for there company, Can you imangine how much £££'s they lost by dumping sky one ? it must be a few few £0000000's on the end of there that they have lost, I admit i dont know the amount sky was going to charge VM for sky 1 but i bet they lost a lot of customers cause of it, I was almost one of them untill i had a chat with retention's . I also wonder how many people have jumped to another isp cause of the caps that VM have put on thee BB.

I don't think branson is the brighest bulb in the house lol, They are desparate to hold on to there customers just ring retentions and say you wanna leave last time i did it they halfed the cost of my 20mb bb and upgraded my tv package And also a few other things on my phone serivce just seems very desparate to me.
But at the end of the day time will tell what there motive is behind this move

valid points... like I say though...for the guys using torrents I don't really see the problem with using the newsgroups via vm because vm already know exactly what files these guys are downloading from the torrents.

Ngroups.net mate, about £8 a month unlimited, multiple IP's supported.

thats a good price witchy....I didnt realise anyone supported multiple IP's though because of the account sharing issues.

£15 a month is daylight robbery mate, surely that's a typo??

no typo lol... I pay the same although the exchange rate must have weakened a little because last time I looked I was paying £14 and pence lol

I use ngroups as its cheap,as SSL, 100+days and fast
I almost max out my 2 modems ;) 4+ meg early in the morning. About 3meg in the day

But its cheap thats why i use it ;)

Upcoming periods: each 3 Month(s) à GBP 14.99

thats definately a very good price for an entire 3 months, unlimted with SSL included too.

These popular newsgroups have always been part of the Virgin network - atleast they were on Blueyonder, not sure about NTL, the reason noone bothered with them was that retention was diabolical on popular groups so rendered them practically useless.

The only thing that's different is the rentention level has increased a few days.

I tried them years ago but like you say the retention was appaling and also download speeds were nothing compared to what they are now so they were gone even before you could finish them lol

Officially they don't. ;)

Doesn't stop me from sharing my account details with 2 mates and my brother ;)

BTW, do you EVER sleep??

try www.hitnews.eu

£5 per month unlimited, ssl included, multi ip, 8 connections

paypal accepted aswelll, which most don't do these days

used them for 4 weeks and are spot on.

I use usenet-news.net £10 a month 20 connections and ssl and multiple ips. I was wondering though as I use grabit as my newsreader but this doesn't support ssl so how are other people using ssl with grabit?

Cheers

if paypals accepted it means no porngroups a lot of ppl aint gonna like that 1 lmfao

Ngroups.net advise Paypal customers to use a special 'no porn' server that they have setup, but the standard servers still allow them to connect, sneaky buggers, lol :)

I'm sure grabit must support SSL mate because I use Grabit and I'm on SSL and dont have any probs at all :err:

LOL....thats fair enough....quite suprised they dont keep track of things like this for obvious reasons but hey-ho...their loss is your gain mate :)

...I'll sleep when I'm dead mate...which may be sooner rather than later due to lack of sleep :err: lol

I have tried grabit and it doesn't work on the ssl server. Used newsleecher which does support ssl and it works fine. Are you sure you have it connected to the ssl server? Looked all round the web and grabit doesn't support ssl.

you did use stunnel to connect to the secure server?

**update** Sorry for the brief reply I was trying to do too many things at once again as usual lol... You need to use a program called stunnel if you wish to use grabit and connect to SSL secure server mate. You can download stunnel here mate...
http://www.stunnel.org/download/binaries.html I keep things pretty up to date myself so am currently using stunnel 4.22 ;)

Here is a copy and paste of a set of instructions that will help you set it all up...

Use an SSL enabler. SSL enablers allow you to connect any program that does not natively support SSL to a server that requires encryption.

Giganews members can use the Giganews Accelerator™ software to encrypt their entire Usenet session with any newsreader client. THere is also a free program called stunnel that can offer similar functionality for Windows, MacOS X, and Linux.

Below are instructions for installing and configuring Stunnel for Windows. OSX and Linux users should visit www.stunnel.org/faq for instructions on how to compile and configure Stunnel.

Stunnel setup (Windows)
Download the latest Windows Binaries from www.stunnel.org/download/binaries.html and install the program.
After installing, go to "Start>Programs>Stunnel>Install Service". You should receive confirmation that the service is installed.
Next, go to "Start>Programs>Stunnel>Edit stunnel.conf" Stunnel.conf is a plaintext file with all of Stunnel's options. Make these changes:

Find the line ";client = yes" and remove the semicolon ( ; ). A semicolon at the start of a line causes it to be ignored, which you want to override. Add the following lines to the bottom of the file:

[nntp]
accept = 119
connect = news-europe.giganews.com:563

The service name in [brackets] can be anything. The "accept =" field is the port your Usenet client connects to, generally 119. The "connect =" field is the IP/domain and port of the secure server you are forwarding traffic to. Depending on your location, you may want to use news.giganews.com instead. (obviously the connect information used above is for those using Giganews but for those that aren't just enter the IP/domain and port details for your secure server)

Save these changes and close stunnel.conf.
Go to "Start>Programs>Stunnel>Service Start" or "Run Stunnel". The program's icon should appear in the taskbar.
News Client Setup
These steps are not particular to any news client and should be simple changes in most clients.

Change the server address in the client settings to "127.0.0.1" or "localhost". (in the case of Grabit right click on your server and select server properties and enter 127.0.0.1 or localhost in the hostname setting)

Make sure the client is set to connect to the same port used in the "accept =" field in stunnel.conf. This will almost always be port 119.(this is Grabits port so all good here)

Save these changes. Test settings by updating headers or downloading an article. When you hover your mouse over the Stunnel icon, it should display "x session(s) active" where x is the number of connections you have configured in your client.

Hope this helps you out mate :)

Eeek, looks a bit longwinded mate, I think I'd rather just switch to a prog that has built in SSL :)

Talking of alternative newsreaders, has anyone ever used Newsmanager Pro?

I had never heard of it until yesterday when i grabbed a copy, it is the most overly complicated piece of software I've ever used, serioulsy, download it and have a laugh at it, up until now I always considered Newsbin Pro to be the most complicated to use but this Newsmanager thing takes the biscuit.

its one of those mate lol... sounds long winded but is infact a very quick and easy task :) ...much like the making your own .dvd file for a 360 game... sounds long winded but when applying the actions is completed in seconds ;) lol Also its one of those enter the settings once and you dont have to do it ever again jobbies :) ...I just like Grabit mate and am one of these that gets attached and sticks to using the same programs if they work for me lol ...for this reason (and I'm also definately swayed by your description mate) I dont think I'll be trying Newsmanager Pro any time soon ;) pmsl

Great news mate....glad you cracked it :proud:

the reason it has dropped mate is because between 4pm and midnight you get speed capped for 4 hours after you hit your the dl cap limits lol

@ Wizard got it working mate

Yes but without SSL encryption.

That's only an issue if you're paranoid like some

LOL....cant be any more trouble than the torrents though mate in terms of what the ISP knows you've downloaded and Partycan definately doesn't come across to me as the paranoid type either mate ;) lol

Go on, give it a try mate, just out of curiosity, go on, install it ;)

It's mindnumbingly complicated.

I need someone else to have experienced this.

lol
