UPC Ireland now sending out new cards

Rom142 RevG02 is what i'm hearing but not seen one yet.

For some strange reason, they only seem to be issuing to people with Setanta subs at the moment whilst other installs are still being issued Rom110 RevA07 cards.

isnt that the rom revision of the new tv cabo card?

Nagra1 boxes can easily become Nagra2 or even Nagra3 boxes with a fairly simple firmware update. The basic functions of the cam are identical for all three systems. Just a few details need changing !

Its sent down the cable or over-the air (MMDS) !

When the box is in standby it effectively tunes to the default frequency and, every so often, it checks if there is a new firmware to download. If there is then it does it.

You can usually see the list of firmwares on the default frequency if you have one of the non provider boxes. They usually have rather odd names that tend to give the game away

im sure if the factory was to do a firmware update it would work as the dreambox can work with n2 and n3 also lots of new hd receivers should be on there way out so you might not see a firmware update for the likes of the older eurovox good way to self them and sellnew stuff

Slightly different proposition here. A standard hardcam has very little work to do as its basically just a stream-to-card director. A softcam, on the other hand, has to do all the work of the card as well. Nagra2 is very much more difficult to properly emulate than Nagra1 (N2 Rom is 112k whilst N1 Rom is 24k) as it is set up to allow providers to change encryption types whenever they choose.

Most of the N2 softcams presently available for the likes of dbox/dreambox are set up for other providers. The encryptions methods used by those providers are hard-coded into the softcam rather than any attempt at true emulation, thus they would be pretty useless for UPC.

It also seems that UPC have never actually sent an N2 keyroll (the cards are pre-programmed with the operational keys at factory) so no one has any idea what form AU would actually take..........

they are doing it now from what most people are saying think if you have satanta or take a new sub with satanta you get the new card so it wont be long till they do a full change

its all gone in reverse now as there back taking out the new boxes and puttin in the old boxes why i dont know

My mate who lives about 10 mins away from me got the new UPC card in the post 2 weeks ago, UPC rang him today and said 'there turning off the old cards this week'.

I havent even gotten the new card, both have the same basic pack.

Seems odd him only being up the road.

That may simply mean they are turning off HIS old card this week. They seem to be sending out batches of new cards every few weeks and then disabling the original cards a few weeks later.

This allows customers a couple of weeks to do the card swap and report any problems whilst still being able to fall back on the old card whilst those problems are sorted.

Thats it alright, asked him was the swap successful.

He was happy to know he still has time with his beloved starview, wont go down untill N3 is solely up and running.

Just to let you all ( Incase you notice these channels missing from your STB) know UP* have switched there encryption on the following channels over to Nagra 2/3

THE ADULT CHANNEL (1801/1802)
MUTV (1801/1802)
PLAYBOY (1801/1802)

They will also switch Setanta over at the end of the month this only effects NT* areas and not Chorus

Streams on both channels are 1801/1802 so hard to tell
All i can tell you 1800 is now gone my contact also informs me that Setanta will follow before the end of the mth.

Setanta would be likely to go next as people were reporting subscribers of the setanta pack were getting new cards 1st.
