Hi all,

I've been 'Blind Search' scanning the new satellite Eutelsat 21B at 21.5°E and I have found that the 'Blind Search' scanner is almost useless... in fact it found none of the active transponder frequencies when I searched the Ku Band between 10.700GHz ~ 11.200GHz ...when in fact there's a considerable amount of transponders/channels/feeds/Internet/Data Streams to find... but it doesn't find any of them... and most of the transponders have very good Signal Strength/Signal Quality readings...

I performed 3 'Blind Search' scans on the 10.700GHz ~ 11.200GHz part of the Ku band... and I used the following 'MHz Step' increments in descending order...

4MHz
2MHz
1Mhz

Oh, by the way... this is the equipment I am using...

Technomate TM 5402 HD CI+ Super+
Fibo 1.20m x 1.35m Dual-Offset Gregorian Antenna
Inverto Black Pro C120 Single Flange LNB [0.2dB]

Below is a list of transponders/channels/feeds/Internet/Data Streams that I manually added/scanned into my receiver from the listings on 'Flysat'... whereas the TM 5402 HD 'Blind Search' Scanner could not find any of them itself... it's really shocking...!!

I just can't believe it... this is a ridiculous amount of transponders that the TM 5402 HD 'Blind Search' Scanner could not/cannot find on this specific part of the Ku band on this specific satellite... what's going on...?

I think the 'Blind Search' Scanner is going blind...!!

Best Wishes,

just done a blind scan on my DR-HD F15 similar to the tm5402hd with a triax td110,icecrypt 0.2db lnb on a damp overcast evening and water on the dish/lnb and found these txp,s

11.668.v.3124
11.672.v.3124
11.676.v.2850

ive not noticed any rise in signal levels seeing as its a brand new bird even though it employs a wide beam.. a big let down so far, regards mdt

Big difference in some transponders a few are coming through 80% quality on the Wide-beam but the majority are only 40% quality on what may be the Western Beam aimed at North West Africa,

KNN has just moved to a much weaker beam 11004 H 2592 & now vanished again ? No Signal

10978 V 2170 Al Falastiniah TV 82% Quality
11600 V 2170 Yemen 80% Q
11690 V 1446 Azai Satellite 82% Q

They seem to be having a play with the signals atm some transponders with a good signal earlier have now gone ?

Blind Scan on the TM5402HD can only pick up 25% of the active transponders here now even the Manhattan Plaza XT finds more than that in dvb-s.

I am beginning to think that some of the transponders have now migrated to the Eastern Beam aimed at the Middle East,Northern India & Eastern Europe.

Hi again all,

I have repeatedly scanned all three (distinct) parts of the Ku Band on this satellite... and this is what I have found so far...

FSS Band: 10.700 GHz ~ 11.700 GHz

FSS = Fixed Satellite Service (Geostationary Satellites for TV/Radio/Network Communications)

This part of the Ku Band (known as the FSS Band) seems to be the only active band ATM on Eutelsat 21B and scanning should find numerous active transponders (alas not with the TM 5402 HD) but shows no sign of any signal overspill (active transponders) from either Astra 1KR/1L/1M/2C at 19.2°E or Astra 1D/3B at 23.5°E

DBS Band: 11.700 GHz ~ 12.500 GHz

DBS = Direct Broadcast Satellite (Consumer Direct-To-Home Satellite TV)

Scanning this part of the Ku Band (known as the DBS Band) finds no active transponders from Eutelsat 21B nor does it show any signal overspill (active transponders) from Astra 1KR/1L/1M/2C at 19.2°E but it does show considerable signal overspill (active transponders) from Astra 1D/3B at 23.5°E

Telecom Band: 12.500 GHz ~ 12.750 GHz

Telecom Band = First used by France Telecom (aka BBS Band = Broadcast Satellite Services)

Scanning this part of the Ku Band (known as the Telecom Band/BBS Band) finds no active transponders from Eutelsat 21B nor does it show any signal overspill (active transponders) from either Astra 1KR/1L/1M/2C at 19.2°E or Astra 1D/3B at 23.5°E

Official Coverage/Footprint Maps for Eutelsat 21B can be seen here...

Hi again all,

Addendum:
I forgot to mention that I did have some overspill this morning from Astra 1D when scanning the FSS Band: 10.700 GHz ~ 11.700 GHz

The 2 transponders/channels (below) from Astra 1D (inclined orbit) showed up on a scan at about 0700 (presumably that is one of the windows when Astra 1D briefly returns to the Clarke-Belt)

10.876 V [22000] 5/6 DVB-S QPSK
RTL Télé Lëtzebuerg

10.891 H [22000] 5/6 DVB-S QPSK
RTL Télé Lëtzebuerg

Hi owen,

Thanks for your results mate...

Did you notice that the first transponder in your list is one of the two transponders that I mentioned in Post#7 as being overspill from Astra 1D at 23.5°E
