Rangers have agreed a fee with Sporting Lisbon for the transfer of midfielder Pedro Mendes to the Portuguese club, Ibrox boss Walter Smith has confirmed.
The 30-year-old has travelled to his homeland to discuss personal terms for a deal that could be worth between £1m and £2m to debt-stricken Rangers.
Rangers could use the money to bring in a wide player, with Jerome Rothen having moved to Ankaragucu in Turkey.
"The move suited all parties," Smith said of Mendes' likely transfer.
It appeared that Sporting had not followed up their initial interest and the player last week said he was happy to remain in Glasgow.
