Sony Ericsson W580i - £69 With Code @ Great Universal

on the letter what came with the phone its 89.10 but just checked my account the website and its 59.10...so everything ok i presume?

received my phone today also, :Doc:, in the statement it says £89.10 but if you log into your account it will say £59.10 , seems like we all got a bargain. :), Now the next step is, how do we unlock these phones to all network??

Print the page off that says £59.10 as proof should they change their mind at a later date (see the post with the Money Saving Expert link)

Phone them and ask for a new statement with the correct £59.10 value. Then pay it off as soon as you can....

For unlocking a quick look on Google says no way of doing it free.

Remote is looking about €50 (for 50 credits on DaVinci Team's website) and shops about the £25 mark.

But it might be quicker starting a new thread in the Mobile section: https://www.digitalworldz.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=31

If fes_786, Blartiartfast and the others don't know a cheaper or free way I doubt there is one.

theres always a litle more cost to think about before buying it, i.e. unlocking them.

i agree with little pob here, ( the davinci team , may be able to do it for the 50 euros ), it is a pain in the butt, downloading the software and waiting for your code coming through via email ).

hope i dont get wrong for saying this. lol

so are these codes still being accepted ?

If they go on in the checkout they'll come off on your account...

But people on the MSE forum have reported Littlewoods/GUS coming back months after the account has been settled trying to recover all or part of the vouchers used (even when received as junk mail through the door). Hence my recent posts recommending that people print off any proof of the £59.10 price ;).

thanks little_pob,makes me wonder if its worth the hassle :(

but must admit would make a cracking christmas pressie for my daughter lol

The 2 codes above will work for any phone in Great universal stores gave to them to a friend and he was well chuffed bought himself a nokia n73 same discounts: spook :: spook :

Mine arrived today too. But i can't get past 'step1' of the quick setup guide...

ie, if theres no phone number on the sim/box then I'm supposed to go to http://www.orange.co.uk/payasyougoreg/ and register.

trouble is it keeps throwing up an error message everytime i put in the sim card number in order to retrieve the phone number and activate the sim.

not impressed with 'orange' so far, anyone else having trouble ?

Try calling them from a land line on 08000 79 0006.

You'll need the IMEI of the phone (its on the box or *#06# will display it on the handset), the SIM card number, your choice of 4 digit PIN, your home address including postcode and your email address.

If you want to top-up have a debit/credit card handy to assign it to your number.

The £30.00 off code is out of date, don't suppose there's an up to date one anyone knows? [cheek]

right guys ive phoned orange
to unlock there is three step.

1st u have to register ur ,sim and have the phone for 3 months

2nd it costs u £20

3rd it takes betwenn 7 to 15 days to unlock

or u can keep the same number but u need to get a pac number from ur service provider to give to orange ,it dont cost anything(they said)

Unlocking Sony Ericsson phones depends on the CID version of the phone, for example most SE W580i's are CID52.

CID52 can only be unlocked using some specialist equipment connected to the handset, most these use log files. Until recently they where not even supported by SETool, setool now supports them however it takes 10 logs to complete the unlock and can take upto 72 hours to complete the process.

Due to this unlocking usually costs £25-35, unfortunately at the moment most the shops that offer unlocking will be charging this price, I personally would not charge £25 as its a long process and £5 just isnt feasible for me especially since, if you get something wrong, it will either kill the phone or at the very least the logs will be wasted thus you have to start again and use another 10 logs...

A lot of the new phones such as W200i, 580, 850 etc are all going to be CID52, some may be lucky where they get a CID51, however no shop should really be quoting you for the unlocking unless they have first found out the version as most these places will tell you its £10 then try unlocking the phone and either damage the phone or tell you it cant be done, or tell you they need to charge you more...

Hope that helps anyone looking into unlocking these phones :) sometimes its just not feasible to unlock these phones, for example the W200i is quite a cheap phone however it costs nearly the same price as the handsets value to unlock it.
