Sarah Michelle Gellar is leaving UPN's Buffy the Vampire Slayer when the current season wraps in May, it was confirmed on Wednesday.
Variety reports that Gellar informed producer Joss Whedon of her decision after months of speculation in the industry that this season would be her last with the show.
Now a fresh round of speculation has started up that the series as a whole will end in May, although it is currently undecided whether the franchise will simply be extended into a different show. Reports indicate that Jordan Levin, president of WB Entertainment, is "hopeful but not certain" that Angel will return for a new season in the autumn.
