i take it this machine will play all discs inc svcd / vcd etc ?

yes it works with the following

RECORDABLE DISC SUPPORTED :
1. DVD+R ( DVD+VR Mode )
2. DVD+RW ( DVD+VR Mode )
3. DVD-R ( DVD+VR Mode )
4. DVD-RW ( DVD+VR Mode )
5. CD-R ( SVCD/VCD Format )
6. CD-RW ( SVCD/VCD Format )

dont look like it has Video+

This one does not look like it will play DivX stuff. Is it worth looking for a DivX compatible player anymore ?

divx will probably be next generation m8 according to the specialised forums.... mine arrived this morning....will have more info in 24 hours but initially...id say it does what it said it would.....need to dig into the specialised composite feeds but I whacked a dvd down from my dvcam
via ie 1394 and it was a clone totally lossless....no time to suss if it has video + etc.....

if anybody has any specific questions they need answered fire away otherwise
will post a more complete appraisal\test tomorrow.

i don't know if this one is as good as the other one its from bigpockets Eurotech Home DVD Recorder http://www.bigpockets.co.uk/product.php?product_id=1545 £189.99 freepost i think and 10 blank dvd's

well it does not seem far off M8 ,from the spec the only difference i could spot is that it only works with DVD + .whereas the liton works with + or - which is pretty good incase one format wins out over the other ,you have it covered both ways....

Nice find Damage but as ssilvo said liteon has the edge m8 ,for another £10 or so u get the best of both + & - :)

yep i would agree best of both worlds with the liteon at the time i did not read the spec's it was one of bigpockets mailshots

ok got to spend a bit more time with it with following conclusions

1. it does not have the video + but the graphical method of setting up and programming up to record is so easy even my 80 yr old dad clocked it straight away...excellent

2.picture quality is excellent and well suited to 550 lines horizontal res of most modern DV Cam.

3.setup of tv channels is easy and automatic.

4. cables supplied ...2 x phono \phono + a scart and a rf lead ,the batteries for remote are included.

5. Sound is via spdif or optical into 5.1

6. manual is ok...just go to the fast setup section at the back

7.a nice feature is the auto glider when you are recording form an external source like a camera you can set the unit to easily lock to the camera so when you put the camera to play the dvd drops into record ..when you pause it stops recording and adds a chapter point....nice touch...

To cut a techno babble short it does what is says in the ad....is very easy to control and kissesVhs goodbye ,I suspect once and for all....

PS) no timeslip function but it never claimed to have it :)
