iPhone 5c and iPad gen 2 help

I have acquired two old iPhone devices from a recycle bin and reset them with iTunes but I'm stuck on how to bypass the Activation lock.
I have tried various methods found on the net with no success .I don't want to spend money on them as there not worth much .
I know very little about apple products (I'm OK with windows and android)so can anyone point me in the right direction to be able to reliably remove The Activation Lock on a iPhone 5c or an iPad generation 2 .

Put them back in the recycle bin , they are old and will not take a firmware update ect

Oh I know that thought has crossed my mind but as you know its the challenge to get them up and running again.
Even so they will probably still end up in the bin.
