England hosted the tournament in 66' so didn't have to qualify.
As champions they didn't have to qualify in 70.
England failed to qualify in 74' and 78'.
That makes 16 years solid that England didn't qualify, oh!! and lets' not forget 94', England again didn't qualify.
I am not taking anything away from Englands' fine performance in winning the final in 66 but hosting the tournament and not having to qualify does bring certain advantages.

hmm i think your wrong there. like frank lampard said who wants to start the tournament at their peak. the performances will get better. england should win group b comfortably with either 7 or 9 points. then with rooney back for the knockout stages england will have an extra dimension thats needed to go all the way.

The soccer violence in England is very minor and mostly kept underground. Do a little google search and find out whats going on in the rest of the world. As so often we may well have been the first but we are no longer the worst.

On a lighter note. If England win their group I'll be watching them in the second round. I am absolutely buzzing.
