iPhone Few questions about the iphone :)

hey all

i'm looking at getting the iphone

a girl in work has got one and she says its great apart from

1. She cant use music on her fone for ringtones?

2. She cant get music onto her fone unless she buys it from itunes?

Now, for a start, **** THAT!! if i jailbreak an iphone can i use tunes for ringtones and get music onto the fone other than buying from itunes?

awrite gav, jailbreak will allow u to use 2nd party apps, (1s u d/load from any torrent news groups, games apps ect) i got latest tomtom on mine or navigon if u prefer, also loads eh games and stuff, got on disc if u need em m8, much u paying? and is it 8 or 16 gig? or new 3gs one?? and yea, jailbroke needed, will make it sim free also

You can use your iphone with iTunes as you would an ipod.

sync you entire library or whatever tunes, Podcasts u want.

remember jail breaking does not always mean that it will unlock the phone, it will only open the phone so you can add downloaded apps etc etc

use audiko to add or make your own ringtones

to add music eg. in media player, storage device etc
connect to itunes
when iphone is sycd, clk. on "file" top left , in the the drop down menu select "add file to library" for single track or "add folder to library" for complete album
this will then allow you search to where your music is. select and your done

Anyring via Cydia allows you to allocate any song from your library as a ringtune, or you can just cut the section you want and make your own or there is software that will do it all for you but it's not free

You don't need to buy tunes from itunes, but you do need itunes to transfer mp3 files from your existing pc music/video library

any mp3 file can be converted and used as a ringtone:

• in itunes r/c the song you want as ringtone
• go to options tab and select the section on the song you want as the ringtone ie the start and end times ( max 40 secs)
• r/c the song again and choose convert to acc file format
• a new copy of the mp3 is now listed, r/c again and choose find in explorer
• r/c the file and change it from .m4a to .m4r
• double click the file and it automatically goes in to the ringtones section in itunes.
• sync your iphone and the new ringtone appears in the settings

i've been trying to track down a 16gb 3gs iphone all day but no **** has them!!

fs i'm gonna pay £440 cash in hand and no bugger wants it!! lol

Gav, when u do get one, check baseband (modem firmware in general ,about) is not 05.11.07, this cant be unlocked to take any sim yet, unless u happy to use o2,, and if u buy one that not already been updated to 3.1 by itunes, when u connect it, say no to upgrade, best to stay on 3.0/3.01 for now

You need to jailbreak it, Dont if your not using an O2 simcard cause it cannot be unlocked currently for all simcards.

- Install RockExtensions 1.01

- Reboot

* Rename the downloaded rockextensions to rock.deb

* Copy the file to var/mobile on your iphone

* Open up mobile terminal on your iphone and do the following

* Type in su (press return)

* Type in alpine (press return)

* Type in dpkg -i rock.deb (press return)


On to the next deb file:


* Rename the downloaded anyring.deb to ring.deb

* Copy the file to var/mobile on your iPhone

* Open up mobile terminal on your iPhone and do the following

* Type in su (press return)

* Type in alpine (press return)

* Type in dpkg -i ring.deb

* Reboot your iPhone and enjoy using all your songs as ringtones
