Hi again all,

Eutelsat 25C at 25.5°E (Wide Beam)

Eutelsat 25A has been replaced by Eutelsat 25C at 25.5°E

This satellite has been moved from 70.5°E to the 25.5°E orbital position as a temporary measure until Eutelsat 25B is launched and deployed which should take place sometime in the 2nd quarter of 2013

Eutelsat 25C has had a few name changes over the years...

Eutelsat 70A
Eutelsat W5
Eutelsat 3F1
Eutelsat W1

Original launch date: 20 Nov 2002

The new Wide Beam employed by Eutelsat 25C (see footprint below) is proving to be a lot more difficult to receive here in the UK unlike the Wide Beam of Eutelsat 25A which seemed a lot easier... however there has been one rather unexpected development with the new Wide Beam... I can now get a signal lock and watch channels on 11.585 V [27500] at certain times of the day... I was never able to get a lock on this before...

View attachment 71990(click on image to enlarge)

At the moment I've got signal locks on 3 of the 6 active Transponders/Frequencies on this satellite... I have listed all of the active Transponders/Frequencies and their associated TV Channels below... I have also added my Signal Strength/Signal Quality readings to the 3 Transponders/Frequencies that I currently have locked...

Not a sniff here at 8am here in West Lancs but not really that surprising as my dish is smaller.

Did you happen to notice what time of day is best?

With a bit of luck, I might just get a lock on 11151 but I'm not holding my breath.

Hi killdeer,

Not a sniff here at 8am here in West Lancs but not really that surprising as my dish is smaller.

What size dish are you using mate...?

Did you happen to notice what time of day is best?

The best time to try these transponders/frequencies is from around 5pm to 11pm (UK Time)

With a bit of luck, I might just get a lock on 11151 but I'm not holding my breath.

Yes you are correct about 11.151V ...that seems to be the easiest transponder/frequency to get a lock on... closely followed by 11.389V

I hope this helps...

Best Wishes,
Zorch

Many thanks for that Zorch, most helpful as always.

I've recently upgraded my dish to a Triax110.

I've added 25.5e to my list of satellites and stored that strongest transponder.

I'll try again later this evening.

forget it m8 @zorch is using one of the finest satellite dishes ever made which although is listed at 1.2x1.3m it performes like a gibertini 1.5m which is no cheap crappy dish. regards mdt

Gibertini 104cm + Inverto Black Ultra South East England

11.151 V 2150 Assirat TV Kuwait 47% Quality on TM6900HD Super

Just scanning the bands that this sat used to operate in 10950 to 11200 11200 to 11700 ect,

I did try a couple of hours ago but no signals.

Tried all the other frequencies but only 11.151 V 2150 coming through here from 25.5 east will check my set up tomorrow to see if the tracking can be improved.

South East England

11.151 V 2150 Assirat TV Kuwait 47% Quality on TM6900HD Super

thats the key m8 south east england... up here in the north-west of england i dont get a sniff on my td110 with a dr-hd f15 and would,nt on my gibby 1.2 either if it wasnt dismantled and in my bedroom. lol regards mdt

Yes we are nearer the footprint down here in the South of England but the original footprint top image (Wide Beam) has little resemblance to what the footprint was when this satellite was at 10 east when compared with the current footprint issued by Eutelsat that is the same as 21B @ 21.6 east ?

This beam (Super Wide) for W1 @ 10 east even if it was further South as currently depicted is still a poor guide as is the current map for 25.5 east some of the problems may be that the power levels are much lower since the W-1 Satellite was launched on 20-11-2002,

Hope you get the 120 Gibby working again mdt.

As Stated By mdt North West using a Gibby 1.25 and not even a sniff, Zorch why do you torture us like this if i cant get a Fibo second hand then i will have to look at the Andrews 1.8m then i will be the weak tansponder master (Loud deep bellow Laugh) OH! yes i will LOL

Hi again killdeer,

I've recently upgraded my dish to a Triax110.

I've added 25.5e to my list of satellites and stored that strongest transponder.

I'll try again later this evening.

You will increase your chances of success if you load Phantompatch 117 to your TM 5402 HD as you would then be able to position your dish much more accurately (using the DiSEqC 1.2 adjustments) than you are currently able to do with the latest Phantompatch/s...

When you are using 117 you can actually see the 'Signal Quality' bar reading fluctuating naturally... therefore you can tweak/set your dish position to a much finer degree... whereas the latest Phantompatch/s are configured in such a way that you either lock the signal or you don't... there's no indication from the 'Signal Quality' bar as to how close to a signal lock you really are...

I have attached the following files if you want to try them out...

TM 5402 HD CI+ Super+ Original Software 1.17 (16-01-2012)
TM 5402 HD CI+ Super+ Phantompatch 117 (16-01-2012)

Remember to upload/save a backup/copy of your CNDF File

All the latest Transponders/Frequencies can be found here...

Hi again Zorch. You description is eloquently laid out. Do you happen to be a teacher?

I'm on patch 127p at the moment and as you say you just can't tell with these later patches just how close to getting a signal lock you are. Perhaps Phantom could bring back that useful feature in subsequent patches.

As 25.5e was not already stored on my box, I set up a dummy transponder on 26e with the parameters for that strongest transponder you found on 25.5e.

I then changed from USALS to DiSEqC 1.2 and moved the dish using the fine control very slowly westwards. As expected, I got no visible change in Signal Quality and as such I've given up hope of receiving anything on this sat with my present system.

Of course, I don't know how close I got to a lock but I don't think I can be bothered to revert to that older patch. Thanks very much again for going to all that trouble with your detailed description though.

I find it interesting that with my receiver, a Tech 54902HD, it's possible to mix USALS and 1.2 ie most of my sat postions have USALS motor control but with 7.3 west, for example, I can fine tune using 1.2.

Hi Killdeer,

Even with your Triax 1.1m which in fact is around 105cm is still not large enough to compete with the Fibo Gregorian Zorch has, the closest you will come to even matching his dish would be if you installed a 1.5m minimum, even my Gibertini 1.2m which reaches 1.3m in height cannot even compare to a Fibo, without going into technicalities how the Fibo works with its front mounted sub reflector belies its origin size the technology involved and its gain makes it how can i say matches the gain input of a standard 1.5m dish.

I have often tried to source one of these secondhand for myself but they rarely appear anywhere probably due to the fact that the owners know just how well they perform.

Regards

Changed the Lnb today for a new Inverto 0.2 Black Ultra & getting about 5% more signal than the old BU that has been on the dish for 18 months lucky that the dish is in the garden & only 4 feet from the ground so no ladders involved,

Also checked the alignment of the dish no problems here no signals from 25.5 east until about an hour ago still only the one transponder coming through here 11151 V 2150 S1 3/4 TM5302HD Q=41%

Getting this transponder 11390 H as well as the regular 11151 V 2150 S1 3/4 maybe resetting the 100cm has helped ?

Hi again all,

I've just managed to get a signal lock on the transponder/frequency which hosts the duplicate Assirat TV channel...

11.662 V [2150] 3/4 DVB-S [QPSK] 2972 Kbps [Wide Beam]

Assirat TV Kuwait [VPID 0033/APID 0036/PPID 0033] FTA

TM 5402 HD CI+ Super+
Signal Strength 89%
Signal Quality 48%

Flysat reports that the 11.662V transponder/frequency employs exactly the same parameters as the transponder/frequency 11.151V ...however the 11.662V transponder/frequency is much much harder to receive... also the Signal Strength/Signal Quality readings are quite a bit lower... so this begs the question... is the Wide Beam the only beam on this satellite...?

Best Wishes,
Zorch

So there maybe 2 beams on Eutel 25C

Just got 11585 V DVB-S/MPEG-2 27500 3/4 back only 3 transponders received here today.
