Right got a sb4200e with locked firmware.
Tried the serial guide and this is what i get?
Press any key to stop auto-boot...
21
[SB4200E Boot]: 2
Bootrom version: SB4200E-0.4.3.4-SCM03-NOSH
Booting over the network...
Attaching network interface enetBcm0...
enetBcmAttach: mac address 00:08:00:1f:50:00
done.
bootp referenced but not included

SB4200

and get an error or no change what so ever.
I changed the snmp port to 255 or something like that i read it somewhere.
I've had a little search but couldn't find anything .
Anyone come across this.

2 enetBcm(0,0)admin:/opt/vwMIPS_1_0_1_fcs/target/config/sb4200e/vxWorks.st
h=192.168.100.10 e=192.168.100.1 u=jmcqueen pw=rickey7 f=0x8 tn=SB4200e o=bs1
I pasted this into hyperterm as well still nothing?

i had this problem and it was the vxWorks file that was wrong (the one in wanyibs locked firmware guide)

I tried the vxWorks.st in wanyibs unlocked guide (copied it to the locked firmware guide folder)and it worked first time.
also i think one of them is vxworks.st instead of vxWorks.st but dont know if this will make any difference.

oh yeah, and another thing i did wrong was put the

2 enetBcm(0,0)admin:/opt/vwMIPS_1_0_1_fcs/target/config/sb4200e/vxWorks.st
h=192.168.100.10 e=192.168.100.1 u=jmcqueen pw=rickey7 f=0x8 tn=SB4200e o=bs1

in 2 lines. it has to be all in 1 line like so

2 enetBcm(0,0)admin:/opt/vwMIPS_1_0_1_fcs/target/config/sb4200e/vxWorks.st h=192.168.100.10 e=192.168.100.1 u=jmcqueen pw=rickey7 f=0x8 tn=SB4200e o=bs1

If you have no luck, jtag into it and reflash it, then fit a switch between the WE pin of the flash so you can switch the write enable on and off. :)

it's got a toshiba chip.
i have done a sb4200 with blackcat, but it was an intel chip and that was a bit hit and miss.
i f8cked one up that had a fujitsu chip using blackcat.
What is the purpose of doing the write enable stuff and where exactly is it i solder.
I'll have a go tomorrow if i got time.

Mutha f*cking thing!!
I changed the snmp from 161 to 225
I aint gonna use blackcat that's shite

ive never had a read of the serial tut
but ive flashed afew 4200e using the 233 interface
have you used fireball "boot.exe" to host the vxworks file set the network card running at 192.168.100.10

ah maybe thats where i been going wrong.
I've been using netboot like it says in some tuts.
The boot exe keeps giving me an error when i click it.
Nothing ever runs smooth.

fireball works mint..

1st change the network card to 192.168.100.10

just put the vxworks file in the same folder as the .exe
run fireball and then plug in your modem, press a key to stop autoboot and enter the command

2 enetBcm(0,0)admin:/opt/vwMIPS_1_0_1_fcs/target/config/sb4200/vxWorks.st h=192.168.100.10 e=192.168.100.1 u=jmcqueen pw=rickey7 f=0x8 tn=SB4200 o=bs1

and you see fireball uploading the firmware only takes afew secs..
then without rebooting. goto 192.168.100.1 goto the hack tab and goto were you browse for the firmware upgrade and put in your fibercoax flash and wait afew mins and you see the modem reboot

then all should be sorted

hey i also have been having the same problem i have followed your tut and now i cannot use netboot as it comes up with this when i goto boot over network

Sending reset request...ok
Waiting for CM to boot...ok
Retrieving CM MAC address...ok
Sending NetBoot request...error

Netboot seems to be part of the problem.
Use fireball boot server from pugs post and if your a sb4200e the command line in fredos.
if your sb4200(not an e) use pugs commands
I'm doing a step by step guide. I've forgot how i exactly what i did on the hack page to add the firmware so i might need someone to finigh it off as i aint gonna do it again.
I'm up and running with a light mac but a ten meg config.

anychance i can talk to you on msn mate? basically i think ive fked up my 4200E as i have uploaded this firmware - SB4200E-0.4.5.0-SCM00-NOSH.hex
and now this is what i get on netboot dunno what im doing really

Sending reset request...ok
Waiting for CM to boot...ok
Retrieving CM MAC address...ok ()
Sending NetBoot request...error

Got to go out now.
Heres a tut i've started and all the software and file you need.
Dont think you've messed it. It simmilar to what i was getting.
The tut has a part missing i need someone else to finish it as i cant remeber what i did exactly and aint gonna do it again for a while.

Just wanted to add that the the command line i posted is for the 4200/4200e

If you look at the fireball folder you see that it has extra folders opt/vwMIPS_1_0_1_fcs/target/config/sb4200/

and that is in the command you type in

2 enetBcm(0,0)admin:/opt/vwMIPS_1_0_1_fcs/target/config/sb4200/vxWorks.st h=192.168.100.10 e=192.168.100.1 u=jmcqueen pw=rickey7 f=0x8 tn=SB4200 o=bs1

all that command is really doing is showing the modem were to download the firmware from on the fireball folder

you really don't need to create the directory structure..the reason these firmwares won't netboot without inserting the whole default bootline is because of several modifications made to the bootline..take a look at the bootline from a "locked" firmware

enetBcm(0,0)admin:non h=192.168.100.10 e=192.168.100.1 f=0x48 o=bs1

as you can see the bootfile name is missing, user name, password, and the flag is set 0x48...
but, with either bootline(the modified one or default) the
/opt/vwMIPS_1_0_1_fcs/target/config/sb4200/vxWorks.st section is outlining the dir structure, but it is not important, all you really need is the bootfile name(vxworks.st) and your modem will have no problem booting as long as the vxwork.st file is being hosted..
