Looking sweeeet Bally

Speaker layout looks fine mate, although I do believe that speakers perform best away from walls. You'll just have to experiment a little to see what sounds best. The B&W's are really nice speakers and if possible try and place the fronts at least two feet away from the wall.

If your AVR has Audessy room correction or any other type of EQ facility, you should be able to negate the effects of placing speakers in bad positions within reason. The EQ will also really help in setting up your rear surrounds in the back of the room so that they can be heard during a movie.

Coming along nicely mate, that sofa should sit really well in your huge lounge.

Going for demo next thursday with that equipment... They are keen to get me to order now but iv got no where to store it until house is ready so wont be ordering nothing until July time and hopefully by then the prices would come down!

Out the Yamaha RX V2065 and Onkyo TX-SR608 what would you go for?!

If you don't need the extra connectivity I'd go for the Onkyo as it considerably cheaper, both are different beasts though.

How many amps do you need in your new house? I presume you need one for the bedroom as well, as that is 5.1 according to your last few posts. Are you aiming to buy one for each room or will you be splitting the speaker connections and feeding each zone?

The Plan I uploaded is for basement only... the 507 I bought might go in my bedroom as iv got it now but still got a chance to send back for refund as its unopened.

Why not go for two channel audio in the bedroom, do you really need two 5.1 setup's in your house? You can run the speakers from your main AVR in the basement and have the bedroom as separate zone. Both can work independently, so the wife can listen to music in the bedroom whilst you sneakily watch porn and get drunk downstairs. Use the money saved to upgrade your HT audio

If you want audio and video upstairs then buy an AVR with dual HDMI outputs that work in different zones. You'll end up with much less clutter in the bedroom as well. What ya reckon?

I thought 5.1 was the norm everywhere? I currently have pc 5.1 speaker which are actually great but I dont fancy wiring them into the walls as the power to turn them on is built into the front right speaker...

Decisions... Decisions!

What will be the main thing you'll be doing in the bedroom, aside from making the bed and folding your wifes clothes? I'm guessing that it will be a watching bit of TV mixed in with listening to some music. Unless you plan on listening to SACD in the bedroom you really can pass on multi-channel music. Music is two channel only, five channel is overkill and can spoil what stereo music is meant to sound like as the AVR starts to matrix the audio and generally fack it all up.

Only use AVR's and five channel audio if you need the rear and side effects. TBH a decent 2 channel setup with a stereo amp and two speakers will better a half decent multi-channel system when playing just stereo any day of the week. You've got your PJ downstairs for gaming and all other critical content, so try and spend more on that and budget elsewhere if possible.

Bally, AVR's tend to colour sound so I try and avoid them if possible for stereo duties, there are a few exceptions to the rule however, brands such as Arcam handle two channel audio rather well. They are the exception but I'm sure there must be other good kit out there which I haven't listened to, it's all very costly though :(

Will be watching movies and music... It is overkill but its either that or return the amp... this is on a seperate budget to cinema room btw.

For my room I was thinking of doing this:
LG 42LF7700
FOXSAT Humax HD (STB)
Onkyo TX-SR507B
Tannoy SFX 5.1
PC connected to AVR using DVI-D to HDMI - This will play all 1080 and 720p rips with DTS audio etc.

What I might end up doing is keeping my Creative Inspire T6100 PC speakers in my room and put the Onkyo TX-SR507 in the living room with some Tannoy SFX5.1s. That way I can move the Samsung HT-TX500 (R/XEU) and wont have to buy a Samsung LED for the living room... As the new 65" is £4999.99!

Really confused now as the Samsung Tallboy speakers look good but as far as I am aware can only be connected to the Amp built into the sub.

Firstly, Sammy don't have a reputation for making speakers so I'd tread carefully, but as I stated earlier I haven't much experience with these types of speaker packages so I really would be speculating.

It's obvious that you have your heart set on a 5.1 sound system for the bedroom so I won't try and put you off that idea anymore, it's just very difficult to implement this with budget speakers in a difficult room but hey it's your money!

So how does the 507 sound?

Iv had them for over a year when I bought my 50" Plasma so there just there for the sake of it at the moment but got no where else to use them so no point in getting rid.

Havent tested the 507 but seriously considering sending back for refund. Bruv I want a nice 65" LED which isnt 3D any suggestions?!

Bally, is that 60" for the bedroom, is it for gaming? That's the reason I bought mine, as you just can't play first person shooters on PJ's where dark scene's become a huge area of black.

Did you see the Panny that just sold at Avforums for £1150, it was a 58" though, decent price IMO. As you're buying new you'll just have to cough up the dough I'm afraid.

I'd consider a plasma at that size, LED is still fairly new and lacks the punch to beat a decent plasma plus you're paying a hefty premium for the newer technology.

Tell you what though, with tough times around the corner you can bet ebay will be seeing a load of nice AV equipment in the coming year, all the big time charlies that bought during good times on the never never will have to sell at some stage. If you're not in a rush it may just be worth hanging around for a few months.

Nah its for the Living Room want something to replace my 50" Samsung PS50A457P1DXXU but was trying to get move away from plasma because of the screen burning/ghosting what ever its called... 10mins of Sky News leaves behind a mark for 10mins or so and its annoying... If I have XBMC or Win7 running on it then can you imagine how bad it will be.

That's image retention, decent plasma's don't suffer from it. Some plasma's go bad and it happens. Plasma is still king IMO, it burns a tad more energy but nothing to effect your monthly bills.

Panasonic plasma is the way to go at the moment, I bought one for a relative recently, a 46"er and it's rather good at everything.

Send the 507 back, the fact you haven't opened it concerns me.

Whats the point in opening it when iv got nothing to connect to it lol

Looking at the Kef 5005.2 5.1 Speaker Package they look great but cost over 6x as much as I paid for the Onkyo 507 amp iv got!! Might just stick with the samsung setup I have got and return amp but that means im limited to getting a samsung tv!

OMG just seen this bad boy! PANASONIC TH85PF12E what you think? Only £24,299.00 lmao!

Looks like the best option at the moment is LG 60" or to hold of and wait for the new models to come out but because of the World Cup I got a feeling prices will shoot up!

:roflmao:

What's all that stuff about your Sammy plasma being only able to output audio to the Sammy 5.1 system? Does it use some kinda proprietary connector? I really hate it when manufacturers do that..

I caught that 85" plasma at some making house's show last year, it was awesome, much better and punchier than a PJ at the equivalent size. Tell you what I'll chip in the 299.00 and you can raise the rest, I'm sure we can come to some kind of time share agreement.

Hmm I think the general election may be a more important factor to consider when buying any item, if the emergency budget is painful, prices will come down for a short while before they shoot up. Prices would need to adjust for inflation or any other monetary measures the new government takes.

I saw a SD pic on a 50" LG and thought it was awful. For anything of that size you really should stick with Panasonic.

Have you seen the guy down in Scunthorpe selling professional 60" Pioneer plasma's? the last one sold for around £3.3k
