Anyone heard of any rumors going around that Sky will intorduce a new card in a few months CAID 0963

I read on one of the forum that they were going to send new encryption card that cant be shared anymore.. but totally dingyed it thinking here we go with another rumor.. perhaps its true then.. anyone got thiers yet ??

Heard this aswell, read on some cs forums that this is going to happen to combat the card share. From what I've read the ecm times are going to be too fast for cs & cccam to keep up.

ive managed to get one sending 40+ ECMs a second before anything breaks up, so itll have to work pretty fast to stop it sharing

also

with the number of older digiboxes out there (amstrad DRX100 pace 2200 etc) theyll never be able to make a card run too fast or their older official equipment wont work anymore, and i cant see sky paying to upgrade equipment for people who have been a customer for nearly 10 years, can you?

the last cards were changed due to a security breach that allowed people to turn their own cards back on, this meant people didnt even have to make any payment to sky, and also worked in the official receivers with the guide etc

the cards now can no longer do this, so even if people are charing cards, sky still gets paid every month, but the people sharing lose all of the nice features that the official equipment offers, EPG, interactivity, etc

sky have had the 'next gen' of viewing cards ready for release for a long time, and will probably have 4th and 5th gen cards ready as you read this as well

but itd take a HUGE leap from what the hackers are able to achieve now to make sky release a new card, and i dont think sharing is that impacting to them

also, skys next gen HD boxes are meant to act as a server with smaller hub boxes all working wirelessly off one card, if the new cards are only to combat sharing, then theyre shooting themselfs in the foot before even starting to roll out the new technology that theyve spent so much R&D to catch up with the hackers on, dontcha think?

:)

I've seen the specs for some of the new NDS cards and they do some quite interesting stuff to limit sharing, mostly by having a much closer pairing mechanism using a random session key system thats passed via an initial RSA encryption.

The spec also suggest that there are limits on the number of ECM's that can be decrypted in any particular timeframe as well as refusing to decrypt any ECM with a timestamp previous to the latest ECM. Also, it seems, the card can be effectively locked to decryption of one channel at once with a new session key needed for decryption of another channel.

Now, this particular spec was for a generic NDS access card and it was very vague (as most NDS specs are) so not sure how this would translate into UK cards, if at all.

It would be a stupid business decision....... so i guess we should expect it to happen :)

Let me explain:
A small amount of piracy helps expansion, like the reason why the DS is so popular and the Wii or Xbox360 compared with Playstations that just arent meeting targets.
Without a shadow of doubt Sky have gained more new subscriptions than they have lost from cardsharing. People that would never subscribe or couldnt afford etc are finding that they are 'chipping in' money, with the end result gaining subscriptions overall. Its almost unheard of that long-term subscribers are cancelling to get a cheaper pirate share option, yet we've all heard of dozens of people who are now adding a few pounds to the pot. Even if you do hear of someone cancelling and paying lower, you can guarantee the 'share' will be made up of a dozen more people that wouldnt have previously be paying so the one sub still results in 'zero' subs lost. :)
Cardsharing will help Sky reach their 10 million subs target. If they choose to spend millions of pounds to attempt to combat this, it will be their most stupid business plan ever. With that said, recently they are costing their subscribers absolute fortunes (multi-millions) with poor business decisions so its probably likely lol.

At least the Uk public are (at last) learning from these spiralling subs costs; realising Sky arent the only sat provider, or opting for downloads instead, or choosing piracy more etc. One day Sky will learn they are on the back foot, but the question is..... will we see a £1000 Sony digibox and £200 per month subs before they do?

there has been in internal mome sent round sky with pictures of the new white sky card to start being rolled out to customers 'shortly' existing customers are unaware of this yet though

expext the actual memo to be here soon ;)

Sky are under contract with NDS to change their cards every so often. i think it's five years,

If the new cards are the same as the NDS3 sky ita cards then it shouldn't be much of a problem, but you never know....

v1 cards came out in 1998, v2 cards in 2000 and theres been nothing since

theyll only release new cards for security reasons

perhaps someone somewhere is close to stumbling on the hack. From what ive heard sky monitor most major hack forums and IRC channels on the topic

Maybe its to stop CCcam being able to wright to the cards.

whatever its for, it has to be able to work in official boxes that are now over 10 years old and can only just manage the latest software, and even the amstrad DRX100's are starting to have problems decoding movie and sports channels. im pretty sure i read that the latest NewCS had something for NDS3 in it (could have been nagra3 though, not sure) so even if it does stop CS for now, you can guarantee that every major group will be working on the cards from the day they are released

itll only be a matter of time before official cards are in linux boxes again

This probably explains the reason for the change:

NDS Europe HACKED

C&P From a Visiting Mod at another site I administrate at.

Good news for Europe. NDS has been busted wide open. We have Rupert Murdock by the tail now.

Expect well known FTA brands like Viewsat to be compatible with the Sky Italia market very soon.

Premiere, NDS have a Piracy Problem

As posted in Czech at parabola.cz

09.10.2008, 09:37

The NDS Videoguard Conditional Access System, which was recently selected by Premiere to provide better content security, has reportedly been compromised by hackers. It is reported that since September 30, it has been possible to view the newly encrypted signals using emulation.

According to the information, DF said there was an interception of a firmware update to Premiere set-top boxes.

Already in August, there were indications of a potential problem, and Hackers became very interested. Internet reports say they were able to discover a new vPlug 2.3.8 designed for the new DVB cards, which are temporary support for some Premiere "program packets."

Emulation has been able to decode Premiere programming channels Direkt, Blue Movie, (one of the erotic channels) as well as Premiere 1-4. Other channels have been confirmed working as well.

The NDS System has been recognized as one of the safest sytems in the World, even though experts know this is not true. There may now be a problem with other platforms including Sky Digital, Sky Italia, Viasat, or German cable networks like Tele Columbus.

In a statement, NDS and Premiere have responded by reminding people that Unauthorized Decoding Schemes are illegal, and may lead to imprisonment.

will this also mean that the free sat cards will change

Yes it likely will. Those who have bought a card from sky within the last 3 years will receive a replacement free, but older ones or ex-subscripion ones or those bought from ebay etc will eventually be turned off and require replacements to be purchased. Nothing is official yet but it certainly is due to happen. I wonder how many will buy a new ftv card or how many will put the money towards a new freesat box instead?

I cancelled my sky sub last year but still have setanta sports using the viewing card - Guess I would have to purchase a new viewing card unless I got the basic sky sub turned back on for a month and hopefully the'll send out new cards

How long do the manufactureres expect their boxes to generally last? If there is a problem with legacy boxes and new cards, surely they can't expect the boxes to last forever.
Nozzer, the specs you saw, you say they were basic NDS access cards so not sure how they translate to UK cards, but can't we assume that because they are basic NDS specs the would have the same basic building blocks of all NDS cards? Bit too simplistic a view maybe!?!
