I have always used OpenVx (Vix) and I wanted to try OpenATV. I have spent time building up all the little settings the way I like them, for eg behaviors of info banners, epg, record list, font, many other settings.

Since OpenVix and OpenATV are quite similar, I was wondering whether the OpenVix setings backup (not image backup) can be used on OpenATV so that I could essentially "port" my setings across.

If I install OpenATV firmware, can I use the settings backup I have from OpenVix?

Good question and i dont know the answer

You dont have much to loose the if you backup your current image as well as the settings you can always return to those.

So flash openatv try the settings backup and if it does not work then go back to your VIX image backup.

Hi yes you can as i have done this on many occasions.
You will always be told its best to do a clean install when changing images but you should be okay and if it gives you problems then bite the bullet and either clean install or use a image back up of your current set up to flash back too..so do a complete image back up first.

Personally i would have said NO!, For one the location of Cam settings are in a different place altogether and any main menu settings such as Satellite settings,Skin etc... are not compatible

I only have time to loose lol. Because if the backup doesn't work I will try to manually copy settings over which will take some time.

Interesting. You have done this when moving across between OpenVix and OpenATV?

Plugins, tuner settings and such I dont mind installing from scratch. It's my personalised / user settings that are more important to port over.

Where do cam settings go for OpenATV? Is there a guide for OpenATV setup? I'm super-comfortable with OpenVix so is OpenATV something I could find my way around by browsing FTP folders or there are many different locations for the important plugins?

usr/keys is were the emu configs go in opentatv

The same for mgcamd too?

So no other folder locations are different?

OpenVix use a different folder for the actual Oscam configuration which is normally in /etc/tuxbox/config

OpenATV Oscam configs are all located in /usr/keys/oscam_config

Openvix CCcam.cfg is located in /etc folder

and as @Ferret explained OpenATV all cam configs go into /usr/keys folder

Openvix also uses /etc/tuxbox/config like all other images

It is the binary location that is different. /usr/softcams/
You don't need any startup scripts or anything. If you want to, place the binary in there, chmod 755. It will start provided configs are present. Just like Commando apart from the 755

Openvix CCcam.cfg is located in /etc folder
Isn't that standard on almost all E2 images?

woah woah slow down lol.
Oscam?
Config settings?
Binary?
755?

I use mgcamd and rarely cccam on Vix.
in Vix the mgcamd files go in usr/keys and cccam goes in /etc.

What is this about oscm and config files in tuxbox?

Better stick to OpenVix at least you know your way around that image

Yeah but all the info above supplied by you guys. How much of it is actually need to know and how much just interestng info for enthusiasts?

I just wanted to know the differences between Openvix and OpenATV in terms of setup,
AB 28.2E
CrossEPG
and user settings such as behaviour when exiting a recording etc.

As much as I could know before I dive in basically so that I can save time. So thanks for all the info.

From what I can gather there isn't a massive difference in setup.
Im actually looking forward to having a play.

Next up OpenPli.

Btw, what is the difference between OpenATV 4.2 and 5.0?
Seems both are still receiving updates, I thought one was old and one was new.
