hey all

looking to do a fair bit of wiring up in my grandas house

now i wanna run sat, cable, ethernet,tv Aerial and phone line into 3 bedrooms, living room and kitchen

is there a type of faceplate then has all these connections on it? or do i have to get separate ones?

i've seen you can get ones which have sat and aerial on it?

also see the normal tv roof Aerial can i just use a splitter or does each output have to have its own connection direct just like sat?

TIA

Cheers

I don't think you'll find a standard face plate to cover all those, all but cable maybe. It would be possible to create your own double with snap in modules though, even if you just get a 1/4 blank n drill to 2 holes for f-type barrels to cover cable n DTV. Triax have a range that are quite good and include HDMI.

TV Aerial easy distributed with a splitter something that can pass 9v is good so you have the option to use a magic eye for infrared remote control.

You can get some decent faceplates of CPC, check them out. Either buy pre built ones like this one

or just build your own with the snap in types as Hejira mentioned.

I've yet to start searching for my aerial splitter but I guess now is as good a time as any, I'll let you know if I find something good.

the snap in types? how'd you mean mate? I'm just a humble greenkeeper, i only dabble in tv-tronics in my spare time :)

do you think i would need a signal booster from the aerial?

i was gonna wraggle the walls then fit some conduit put all the cables in that and also a length of string from the supply to each wall plate

string you ask? so for the future if i wanted to add an extra feature to each wall plate i could just drag the cable through without having to open up each wall :)

Gav, unless you draw a pretty diagram using lots of nice colours (especially pink) you won't get much help around here.

Just to be awkward here's a snap in connector but it's a phono and not a coaxial. You can buy single or double blank face plates and insert your own connectors to suit your setup.

Chuck in a couple of Cat5e or Cat6 lenghths as spares and don't terminate them, I'd consider a spare coaxial cable unterminated as well.

This is what a single blank modular faceplate looks like. This is what the smaller and much cheaper version looks like.

Don't know nuthing bout aerials though :(

PMSL, I'm sure thats a did @ me!

It's so important to have a diagram down on paper for reference, even on the back of a fag packet!

To make the best decision on what n how much cable you want where you have to decide what you might like to plug in n share around your home n the choices are endless now. A little planning will help maximise what you can do with the cables you run.

What your asking for is relatively straight forward and what I would consider to be the bear minimum AV cabling system in every home to maximise the use out of the boxes that are likley to be plugged into them.

Shite I hope this is making sense!! LOL

1. A Double faceplate @ each location would consist of 4 F-Type, 1 Cat5e n 1 Cat6
2. Cable to each location would be 3 x Coaxal, 1 x Cat5e, 1 x Cat6
3. All cables are run back to a patchbay in a central location
4. All services in Sat,Cable,Tel,DTV to central location

With this standard AV infrastructure you have a miriad of options as to what you can achieve. There is a gizmo that will connect to your network n help you achieve almost whatever you want.

These are the Triax Modules:

building these faceplates at each location looks a bit dodgy

i've never done anything like this before so go easy on me! lol

yous both are making perfect sense and thanks very much for your help chaps

everything is gonna be run from a cupboard in the small box bedroom under floorboards/in walls to the faceplates

but one of those links you gave Mukney was just a sqaure bit of plastic, how the feck do i fit screw on ends and input ethernet connections onto that?

Your building nothing m8, they just snap in, it's so you can choose exactly what socket combination you want connecting cable is very straight forward.

I haven't actually looked but Munkey's pic is prob just a blanking plate as per my original comment.

The intregrated Sat, DTV modules have a filter builtin to enable the SAT n DTV to be carried down a single cable then split to 2 sockets using a Sat Switch. This socket seems to filter out the cable signal so you require an independant run for it. I would n have if needed take a blanking plate n drill a hole to fit n F-Type barrell connector to create a simple solid connection that snaps into my faceplate giving me an unfiltered coaxal connection that can then be used for SAT,Cable or DTV! I prefer F-Type connections. I've also done the same thing with phonos, I have on one occassion drilled out a custom configuartion from a standard double blanking plate n had it specially etched with decriptions! It all depends how far you wonna go.

but in that link munkey put it looks just like a square bit of plastic with the middle punched out?

like summit you would put around a lightswitch?!?

or am i missing something lol

PMSL!!!!!!!!
I just don't dare think what this connects to in your system Munkey!

@Gav
Thats just the outer frame m8 to fit either a standard single or double backbox same that you would use for a plug socket or light switch. Modules then just snap into that frame, no special fixing they just push in.

Haha mission accomplished!!

So what backing plate goes onto that? I ain't got a clue about all this shit! I just thought I couldbuy a pre made one with these connections! Lol

I'm using normal electrical backing plates in my place although they are the deeper versions. You may need to drill an extra hole but with your shiny new drill that shouldn't be a problem.

ok worked it out today

need 5 wallplates each with 2 sat connections 1 tv connection 1 ethernet connection and 1 cable connection

thing is how do i get all that into a distribution system as such

can i get an LNB with 10 outputs?

how do i the female ethernet connection on a wallplate?

TIA

Cheers mate

is there such a thing as an lnb with 12 outputs?

This does but we'd have to pimp hibby's ass to pay for it.
