Hi Guys,

got a letter from virgin this morning telling me im getting a free upgrade internet speed from 4mb to 10mb. It said sometime in February so i decided to see what i was getting just now. I disconnected the modem and reconnected and then decided to download something to test it.

My highest speed was 470 kb/sec approx, now i know u never get your full speed and was expecting lower than 400 if i was still on 4mb, so surely im not upto the 10mb and im just getting a crap download speed or im not upto 10mb yet and just getting a good 4mb.

Is anybody else getting the new speed yet ? Im in the Glasgow 10 mile radius, anybody getting it round about me ?.

cheers

gio

is anything on the net about this
and what r u paying for 4mb at the moment

I am not sure what to make of these speed tests.
I have two pc's and a laptop on my home network all are connected by wireless through a router, I can run a speed test on all machines at the same time and get totally different results varying from 1meg on one pc, 4meg ish on the other and up to 14meg on the laptop.

I don't know why they are so different.

I just tried again and I am getting 759KB/Sec where it was 300 ish yesterday.... Go figure

Which you would never get anyway due to overheads. 470 is good asnd probably at 99%

Are u using any programs that download, like a torrent prog or peer to peer, that would affect ur speed tests and probably make them all different.

they are missing out the vital part in their quotes.

"These results appear to be rather fast - this page was probably in the browser cache"

No, nowt downloading and all setup much the same, Anti virus etc....

The laptop is the lowest spec out of the three but reports the fastest speeds...

I never could work it out.
