Not new as such, it's a replacement for my written-off 52 plate Zafira.

I've bought a 04 plate Astra 1.7 CDTi SXi with 72,000 on the clock.

It's got a 1.7 Isuzu engine which I've been told is a nice bit of kit. I'm looking forward to a few years of cheap road tax and 44.1 mpg nipping around town.

I'm soooo happy to be back on the road, I'd have taken a fooking Reliant Robin :)

Tomorrow I'll be filling the tank with Biofuel @ 89p a litre.

Just watch the cam belt mate, as at that milage it should have been done or due for change.
Glad your back on the road anyway.

Full Service history mate, the belt was done @ 70k IIRC.

It's the 1st ever car that has had golden oil in the engine when I lifted the dip stick, so it's obviously just had a filter and oil change too. :)

I know it's high mileage but with it being a Diesel I'm not worried about it.

1 previous owner from new and most of the miles are motorway miles anyway as he was a sales rep.

Nice one m8, glad your back on the road again. As stihl260 says get a belt on it.
I am in the middle of taking the head of a Megane after breaking one, its worth doing it be sure it will save you in the long run.

Did you break it?

Tut tut, you should have known better ;)

Funny you should say that though, because I almost bought a Diesel Megane.

The Vauxhal got better reviewsd though, so that made up my mind.

Nice wheels m8 :)

72k is feck all to that engine.

Sounds like a Good buy mate, hope it serves you better than the last one did.
the high milage would not bother me either .
the Wifes Micra Dci had done 76K when we bought it last year.
I cant get cheap Bio diesel round here:lol:
My Local Morrisons sell it, but its the same price as normal diesel.
When its cheaper i'l buy it!

That what I meant to ask... where's the 89p bio diesel at?

Apple fuels mate, in at Parkhead/Bridgeton area.

In the summer, I'm hopefully going to be putting straight vegetable oil in it, maybe a 80% Veg / 20% Diesel.

If I've been given the correct information, the Isuzu 1.7 with a BOSCH fuel pump will handle untreated sunflower/Veg oil no problem.

I'll do more reading before I commit myself though, I might end up going the full hog and making my own proper biofuel if I can get the ethanol etc easily.

I'm friendly with a local chinese takeaway, and I'm going to ask them for their used oil (if some fooker hasn't already, lol).

Your last car caught fire and you want to run your next car on chip oil.

LMAO.

The only reason my last car ignited was because I was drink driving and I left the Dashboard Chip-Pan on all night!

U know me Munkey, I'll hack anything ;)

Still ain't got the under floor neons like digi though.

Mate, watch your pipes.. bio can rot the fuel lines..

As for putting pure in.. with 20% diesel.. dont try it.. it wont run.. u will need to have an heater fitted to the fuel line.. try 50/50.. costco is about 79p/ltr..

I run mine on bio.. get engine malfunction warning every now and then.. but its just the fuel not pumping right.. but goes after 2seconds

AFAIK it all depends on the fuel pump mate. Lucas pumps struggle but BOSCH are fine.

My car has a BOSCH pump.

Oil will eventually rot the rubber seals in the fuel line, but I don't intend owning the car long enough for that to happen anyway, plus you can change the fuel line anyway with non-rot ceramic stuff. ;)

I know 2 guys locally who run their cars on ASDA Veg oil and used filtered chip pan oil in the warmer months with no problems. Both are running Vauxhall cars with Isuzu engines and BOSCH fuel pumps, they tell me their cars start and run fine but in the winter they add a cork full of turpentine and occasionally mix it with diesel.

lol

Obviously all advice and opinions are appreciated, I'll not be doing the Veg stuff until the summer anyway, so all experiences are more than welcome.

I'd look into it on the relevant forums m8.

I know it's about £400+ for a pump for one of those babies if it goes.

least one thing, we will smell you coming ;) might think its that chippy that does the rounds tho and have all the local weans chasing you round the schemes.

might be a new venture that Witchys Chippie :)

Don't think for a minute he hasn't got that big beast running on his own used chip fat. :)

BTW, if we are talking about the same chip van, I kinda like his stuff.
