Same here, I can go as high as 2.5mb/s but as low as 1.5mb/s as well.

As long as traffic shaping is not implemented for night time downloaders I'll be happy.

Soon I'll need a rack to hold all these hard drives of downloaded material LOL

Anyone got a proper Virgin Media link too what areas and dates the upgrades are guner be cuz i cant find anything

I know fibre optic cable can go alot faster than 50mb but virgin wont have people at that rate really. i had the 20mb service and tested the upload/download speed and it was about 4mb download speed and 256kb upload . so i went to the 2mb service and does me fine. as i dont download movies often but when i do i use rapidshare and it is fast compared to torrents.

even at 50Mb you will probably not get any quicker than you get at the moment, i've found with VM you don't necessarily get what it says on the tin.

Looking forward to when this hits my area.

I do hope they can achieve it, overloading of the network seems to come up alot lately, never from reliable sources though.

bring it on hope its a free upgrade for 20 meg though

Very unlikely, VM have already stated that, although they haven't finalised the price, their target price for 50Meg will likely be around £45-£50 per month.

this download and up load speed is this why i cannot host a game on xbox live with out it freezing

I'm on 20MB and get speed like that too when using speed test sites. You've got to keep in mind though that a lot of these speeds test sites only have limited bandwidth to allocate and if loads of users are flooding them with requests speeds are going to drop.

Paid newsgroups on the other hand are MUCH better equipped to deal with things and I always hit 20MB or slightly under when downloading from them ;)

It feels like we'v been hearing about 50Mb for years now, well ever since 20Mb came out anyway, whats the big hold up and big deal, you'd think they would just get on with it and stop fobbing us off, lol.

Ive still to see any official documentation on 50Mb too, keep hearing/seeing people talk about it but never seen anything solid, has anyone got anything on it to show us ???

Try this link mate http://www.virginmedia.com/customers/upto-50mb-broadband.php

You says the ambit modem would be used for the 50meg service but on there website it says,

Will I need a new modem?

Yes – you’ll need to upgrade your current cable modem to make sure you can take full advantage of the super-fast speeds available. We’ll make sure that all the details about upgrading your modem are added to our website nearer the time of the launch.

so we will need to take out subscription to this then cause its on fibre

As we can only bring up to 50Mb broadband to customers using our fibre optic cable, this means that it won’t be available to customers in non-cable areas.

damn!! we will need to part with cash :(
