Would love some feedback on this question guys

When you are looking for a tradesmen where do you look ? Times have changed where you would pick up Yellow Pages or Thomson Local

Any trade be it a
Plasterer
Tiler
Gardener/landscaper
Glazier
Plumber
Etc.

:)

Friends / family for small jobs. To many crooks about.

Local council do a trades directory up here not sure if you have similar down there mate. I think its sponsored but we get a directory every few months through the door.

I wouldn't take too much notice of these referral sites and magazines. Probably scams to get paid advertising, like Go Compare.

I can't remember the exact story, someone at work mentioned it, but it was something to do with a local magazine promoting a tradesman but he was useless and the reviews were by clueless people who didn't know what a good job was.

I know quite a successful self-employed builder and he works purely on word-of-mouth recommendations.

Thanks :)
was just trying to see what people would do
If I was to spend money on advertising where would be the best

word-of-mouth recommendations for me m8 not advertising

For someone starting out you need to get your name out there first to be recommended :)

tough I know :)

You can do a few jobs at my house for free to get some practice in if you like @Rat.I may recommend you then. ;)

Yeah, try checkatrade.com

I heard good things about them mate from a fellow tradesmen I know, I guess you would be jumping through hoops mind because of the recommendation system they use.

As mentioned getting yourself out there is probably the best way, start small mate and do a good job :)

Checkatrade want to know the ins and outs of a ducks ar*se lol

I must of done a tank of diesel just driving about the borough trying to be seen :)

It's going OK tbh better that I thought it would to start but need just a bit more

Mass email campaign maybe, Buy data from a source I get 16000 company names and email address for £400 and use a company like mailchimp to send out mass emails. Easy to design a campaign and send it out in only a few buttons. Hit different sectors each week. I've currently got about 30k in my data base and it cost £150.00 per month to run the campaigns.

My builder, I have used that for most things I don't want to tackle

I trust you have not yet spent lots of money? @Rat

The online stuff and the likes of Yellow Pages are largely ignored by most. I would do this:

Get postcards printed from the likes of Vistaprint and place in local shops
If there is a local magazine (Parish Council etc) use that
Look for local print booklets delivered in your area
Check online services, many are free and index well in Google searches
Careful leafletting can work, not every letterbox mind
Think about horizontal marketing, customers by 'type'

What is the service unique selling point?

I have spent money yes but not an awful lot
Im surprised to say that FB has brought in a lot of my work so far :) advertising on the buy sell sites which is free

Ive done 6 weeks in the local gazette and that has started to work the last 2- 3 weeks

:)

A mate of mine keeps on about leaflet drops I might give it a try

Ive done a local free magazine for a newish housing area for the last 2 months and that has brought in nothing so far

Im open to all ideas though :)
