Zgemma H1 Thoughts

I picked up one a Zgemma H1 to have a play with in theory a great idea having sat/cable combo in the same box.

The unit arrived pretty promptly not badly packaged either with a proper user manual. The build quality and weight of the unit and remotte feels light and flimsy in comparison to say a DM800 or VU receivers. It's also an ugly looking thing, why did they go with white ???

The reciever came pre flashed with an OpenATV image from December 31 2014, first thing I did was flash via USB to the latest nightly build of the OpenATV image by following the links from the Zgemma website.

The DVB-C tuner looks to be good in terms of sensitivity doesn't need a signal booster to pick up channels. My Dm800SE clone need a signal booster.

Open ATV 4.2 Image.

- Nice HD skin.
- Cross EPG is broken on this image refuses to work with OpenTV providers or RytecXML TV sources within CrossEPG.
- Even after reflashes of different versions of the image Cross EPG is broken. It goes through the motions but sopends a long time stuck on "reading titles 488k", "reading Summaries 1.9mb", once completed EPG is empty and the EPG dat file size is much smaller than it should be, looks like a conflioct compatibility issue within OpenATV and CrossEPG 0.8.1.
- XMLTVimoporter works fine but this is slow,compared to using OpenTV on crossepg
- The image seems to begin lagging after about a day of use, also see Blue screen and green screen crashes within that time.


So with the above issues noted with OpenATV I decided to test a patched VIX Hades image,

- Good news, CrossEPG works fine straight out of the box. No issues.
- Front display doesn't work , (no big deal this is a patched image after all).
- No lag or slow down compared to OpenATV.
- UK Virgin EPG and auto bouquets works fine.

Running satellite and cable side by side both with N lines in MGCAMD (tested 1.35 and 1.38). I seem to be getting regular freezes some a couple of seconds others longer especially on the DVB C canle side. I dont recall seeing this issue using the same line on the same feed with a DM800SE clone (DVB C Tuner).

I have a Western Digital Passport 1TB USB drive plugged in for recording and EPG, Picons. This box only has 2 USB ports. 1 Rear, 1 Front. The front USB port is behind a flap, which meams you have to leave the flap open to use the USB port making the box an even bigger eyesore. Maybe a USB Hub can be used on the rear port to get around this. Recording still needs testing.

All in all it's convenient having sat/cable in the same box if it works seamlessly, so far I having got it working as I would like. It's a shame the officially supported OpenATV image is pretty poor compared to patched versions from other teams.

Anyone noticed freeze issues running Newcamd cable and sat lines in MGCAM ?

I dont have any issues with freezing on mine on either 1.38 or the latest Oscam_emu version, Although i dont use Openatv 4.2 i use the latest V5.0, as for the Hard drive if its not externally powered and your asking the box to power it then its obvious that the PSU that comes with the box is not up to the job. No Problems with Rear USB using it for EPG and Picons

Is OpenATV 5.0 an official build ? The links of the Zgemma site only list OpenATV 4.2 builds.

***EDIT*** Ignore, I've found the OpenATV 5 Nightlies.

I'll give them a go, I'd rather use a officially supported image than patched Vix if I can anyway.

Let's see if it cures the MGCAM glitch.

I am unsure why you are getting images from the Zgemma site yes you need to if you are going to use a Patched image but seeing as the receiver is officially supported by OpenATV,OpenDroid & ItalySat why dont you just get the official images from there sites. Thats what i did

Just flashed the latest nightly openatv 5 image. Crossepg is still broken when using opentv providers for uk 28.2e exactly the same issue as openatv 4.2. Gets stuck at "reading titles 488k", " reading summaries 1.9meg" . eventually completes much more slowly than it should take... Empty EPG.
It's Definitely an issue related to openatv images. I'll see if I can report it to openatv via their forum.
Meanwhile its back to a patched image that actually works properly. Maybe try pli next.

For epg, you can use crossepg 0.6.2

This works well on openatv 4.2/5.0

Thanks, I've just tested it and I can confirm that CrossEPG 0.6.2 works fine using OpenTV sources on the OpenATV 5 image.

The version included in the image downloads feeds CrossEPG 0.8.1 does not work.

These zgemma boxes are great and they changed the colour to white so people it would be different to the current line up of boxes once they finish with ibox name they will offer black again for some models.

I disagree with you saying about build quality what do you want it made out of gold it's fine you should go back and use some of the older first ibox range they was shocking in build quality the metal was so flimsy.

Problems with images is nothing to do with the zgemma (airsat) people its the people that do the images or the people that create the plugins.

I agree with you about front usb it is a stupid spot they should of just had two at the rear but you can get mini usb flash drives so the door doesn't have to be open fully.

Remember these boxes cost around £70 if you want a nice looking box which does the same thing you are looking at almost paying double that and the vu boxes may look good but are so over priced I really do not understand why people buy them

im using the latest open 5.0 backup from here. no freezes here. a few green screens tho when ive tried to change channels too quick. but i think this is an open issue. i dont like it on my dm800se either. it feels big and bulky. other than that its rock solid.

dont forget to use a usb drive with it as well this is something a lot of people do not even think of.

Thanks.. Well it came this morning and its taken me about 4 hours of messing about to get it setup, I've got to say the image that it comes with atv 4.2 is horrible! I need to change it, its slow and unresponsive at times and not a patch to my solo2 lol..

Will try openvix when I can download it

try the openatv 5.0 seems to be solid enough for my box. using mgcam 1.38 (i think) with the sat line in the cccam.list file. glitch free and crossepg working fine. the only other niggle tho, is the user interface of the skin seems too big for the screen.

I had that just downloaded a few from the plugins menu till i found one i liked. The original skin was blowing up my picons to around 4 times the size too.

aye, but if im honest i dont mind that! looks ok for me except the picons are stretched a wee bit.

I bought a box with openatv image & crossepg 0.8.1 installed. I'm having the same problem with crossepg freezing the box. Can you please tell me how to uninstall crossepg?

I use vix and crossepg 0.8.1 and don't have issue retrieving epg data for 28.2 from opentv.

Mine is enigma 2 openatv would just like to try uninstall crossepg first if I knew how.
