where to get cheap PC bits from

I love my self-built 64 3200+, its much faster than my Dads 3GHz P4 Dell (both have 1Gig RAM, run XP Pro and are about the same age (<12 Months old)).

My advice is get the best components you can afford. That goes for name as well as spec (e.g. I'd choose Seagate or Samsung for my hard drive over Western Digital and Maxor any day).

Windows XP 64bit edition is now avalible, and more 64bit software is sure to follow...

If you decide not build yourself Lidl will be selling an AMD 64bit 3700+, 1Gig RAM, 6600GT nVidia GFx, analogue/DVB-T/radio tuner card, 2x 200Gb Seagate HDD, Toshiba x16 DVD Dual Layer +/- rewriter, from Monday 17th October for £749.00. Comes with remote only (no monitor, mouse or keyboard). These usually fly off the shelves and come with a 3 year guaruntee in the price (try getting that from Dell for nowt!).

sounds pretty decent, the prices are quite comeptitve and i dont think u will get'em for much less if at all cheaper.

also make sure your motherboard is 64bit compatible.

i think the motherboard should be compatible kabzy but ill double check so you think it ok thats good ;)

oh i forgot i need a power supply too better add one what wattage would i need guys just a basic one?

is there anything else i need ive got a dvd rom and a dvd writer of me own so i can put them in

doesnt the tower come with its own PSU??

if not then make sure you get a dcent one, escpecially if you leave your pc on 24/7.

i dont think the tower comes with a PSU I leave it on most times so id better get a decsent one then

check this site out, they also have a stand in bowlers, get most my bits from them.

cheers mate ill try them too i like to double check im not getting ripped so far the prices i have got are the cheapest

That motherboard is socket 939, which is only used by Althon 64 CPUs. If this is the correct board then the 3500+ is the highest Athlon 64 CPU (it'll also take upto the 3700+) you'll be able to put in it to not void the warranty.

Lian-Li cases don't come with a power pack. In terms of size, I'd go for at least a 500Watt.

The more you pay for the PSU the better it should be. The people over at bit-tech rave on about modular PSUs, where you only plug in the cables to the PSU that you need for your mobo/GFx/drives combination, helping improve air flow around your case, but they cost upwards of £50!

thanks for all the info guys ive got it all up and running and well happy :) :)

spent a fair bit but well worth it machine is the dogs b*llocks
