Town moves against Islamic school

in this day and age no one wants to upset the muslim communities in fear of being branded racist as has happend in the story,muslims want something, people protest so they must be racist

just say the story was the other way round,a roman catholic organization wanted to build a school on the edge of a muslim town,does anyone actualy believe it would ever get built,not a chance,

SNAP totaly agree with you there,im in the same boat,living in oldham evry where i go i see these new buildings springing up everywhere and by some wierd fluke 99% of them are for muslims, new mosques, community centres, health centres, schools,

now some might say the new community centre school and health centre are for evryone well they are but the criteria for these new buildings state that if you want to use them you must live in the community one problem for non muslims there slap bang in the middle of muslim areas so a non muslim wouldnt be able to use them

but if a non muslim community wanted to build say a new youth club they couldnt why because the council never seems to have any money left due to the recent completion of above buildings,

we respect the views and beliefs of others though so dont impose our way of life in their faces, a bit of common sense at the very start of the planning stage would have saw this coming

actually, many middle eastern countries who have islam as their official religion have chirstian and other minorities. It happens where ever you go, Iraq is notable for it, as is China and even Saudi Arabia. However, this isnt the point being discussed here.

As for the school, it hasnt been built yet and the citizens there are making their thoughts well known at this point. I read this story about a week ago I think, if the town doesnt want it, and there is no muslim community there, then it wont hurt anyone if it wasnt built there at all.

Storm in a teacup really. A shame, but nothing more, nothing less.

At no point in the article does it say that non muslims are not allowed to attend the school - I'm sure they would fine with it if it was a RC school but the racism stenching out the town says it all.

The story raises some interesting points about the effects of immigration and a racially segregated school being built in your community. At first it sounds like the people of Camden are just being being xenophobic but once you start to really consider the long term effects of such a school in their community one would tend to possibly share the views of the Camden locals.

Its not really a storm in a tea cup, well I dont think so for many reasons. Here we have a community that are prepared to be outspoken about their beliefs, its not very British like at all. Over here we daren't say boo to an ethnic minority, hence the mess some areas are in that have heavy ethnic minority populations. Have you been to Luton or Bradford recently?

Ok may of been false evidence, im sure there was grounds behind the evidence presented to the goverment or they would not of passed them...!

This is one of the main points of the thread. Aussies aren't afraid to speak their minds unlike the British. Hell even the French are more outspoken than us. If you speak out here you are labelled xenophobic and racist which is frankly ridiculous.

Too all of those people that label Australians as racists you really need to get out there and realise what great people Aussies are. Half of all Australians are immigrants IIRC and most likely from the far east, why do they only have a problem with a handful of muslims?

Whatever mate, UK and America were after oil and that was the only reason which made them destroy IRAQ....I admit Saddam was an arsehole but the country is in a poorer state now than when Saddam was in charge... This relates to the point that nobody likes changes.......

Do you not think that a school for 1500 pupils when there are hardly any muslims in the area is not drastic?
