Want to add a usb stick to record to but not sure how to set up the box to do so or if I need to prepare the stick first.

I did put a stick in the rear port but when I re-powered up the box had lost the image and I had to re-flash:Angryfire

You may have had an image on the USB stick and it got reflashed after reboot.

Best to initailise it (format it) in receiver so that it is in linux file system so not restriced to 4gb flile size limit. However, fat32 will still work. Once it is mounted, ensure your recording path points to it.

How do I 'format in receiver' please? Is that how you 'mount' it?

what image you using try menu setup storage device initalize

Initialise is the linux term for format. Mounting and initilasiing are two different processes. Some images will not allow you to initialise while already mounted. This is becasue a device may be in use.

Your USB stick may already be mounted. There should be a mount facility in the image you are using which will display any existing mounts.
