1) Set up - system - recording paths
2) Default movie location - highlight - ok
3) Select location -menu - switch to file list - ok
List of storage devices - select rear disc- blue button add bookmark - save
4) Recording paths - use left /right buttons to select rear disk on all but timeshift, leave as it is as not yet active.

Job done, your recording path should now be to your external hdd

Ive tried this but just the internal path comes up and it wont let me change it.
Whats wrong?

thanks sinky

"/media/internal-disk/" is all that comes up in location under bookmarks and at top only <parent directory>

well done mate :)
easy to miss something

Glad to help, if you are uncertain (or even wish to) how to manage your recordings ,ie segregate into different folders, you can use the make file method in telnet or the easy way.

Open your ftp programme and find your media file, locate your external hard drive and just add folders to your drive.Dont forget to bookmark them in set up and then you can put your recordings in folders of your choice.
