I thought that's what YLOD pretty much was.....if you're sure it's deffo not ylod then the only other thing I can think of is your power pack might have gone. Try swapping those out.

cheers, i've asked him to double check what's happening and will report back...

He presses on button then light goes green\yellow then flashing red, then nothing else happens.

basicly strip it down and then use heat gun over the board to reflow the gpu's and chips there is a few videos on you tube and so on

Yeah either that or buy a new PS3 lol. Sucks that there's no answer that's easy to swallow m8.

ok like the 360's then, ok mate will have a spy, any special tools? tx10 tx8 etc needed?

TX10 screwdriver needed. u can get a kit off fleabay for £6 including screwdriver.

nice one buddy, will give that a shot....

does Sony offer warranty at all? is it worth him contacting them before i dismantle it?

£131 quid they quoted me for a refurb because it's out of warranty, inside the warranty then it should cost nowt

thanks for that, do you have to return the old one or any thing? i might keep the broken one and get another for £130.00

if you are going to pay sony £130, then you would be as well to ebay the ylod one, you should get around £50-60 for it on ebay. then put the difference to it, around £130-140, and buy a brand new 160gb slim from tesco. if they have any left

just ebay the console only, and keep any controllers for your new slim

yeah good idea, i will pass that on to him, he has one question, he could (if) this machine doesn;t work after a repair have lost all his saves, poor kid...:Fish:

yes, his saves will be gone if he cant get it fixed

just printed this off for his bedroom wall....
