having an electric door fitted on garage in a few weeks

i need to fit a 13amp switched socket on the ceiling approx 3M back and central on a joist.

I do have a feed in the garage what i want to know do the latest regulations say the cable should be put in the ceiling void or should be in trunking or something else from the switched socket to the feed ?

If it was me i would use Tower Conduit Heavy Gauge 20mm x 2m
Have a look on screwfix.

It's inferred rather than specific regs. Like protection from possible impact damage etc. So no requirement to install in ceiling void. You can surface clip if you want although I'd only do that above 2m.

In more practical terms plastic tubing/trunking would be neater and simpler.

I would protect like the guys mentioned above... not that it has to be, but because in a garage you might have large ladders that hit the ceiling etc when moving around.

Better to be safe than sorry! Just incase :)

thanks Gents, looks like i am off the screw fix for some trunking and clips.
