Just this side of HELL.....
Ok here goes,

I have three base units and a laptop. Orig the laptop was providing internet connection for all other units. Now i have broadband(b/b) i'm trying to set up internet sharing via this means instead. B/B is installed on base 1.

The problem i have is keeping file sharing and getting b/b to other machines at the same time. To get internet sharing i have to let win assign ip addys auto, but it knocks out file sharing, if i assign man ie 10.1.0.1 etc and enable netbios on base 1, i can file share but not b/b share.......HELP

Network Setup Wizard Log
Attempting to set computer name
Old computer name is the same as new computer name - not setting.
Setting server description (comment): P4 2.8mhz
Attempting to set workgroup name
Workgroup name is the same as the old one - not setting.
Will attempt to share public connection.
Will attempt to firewall public connection.
Motorola SURFboard SB5100 USB Cable Modem Shared Public for ICS configuration.
Windows Firewall Enabled on Motorola SURFboard SB5100 USB Cable Modem.
Home Network Shared Private for ICS configuration.
'Shared Documents' shared.

Windows Firewall Enabled on Motorola SURFboard SB5100 USB Cable Modem.

Windows ICF still active on that connection, disable it first

Nope, don't disable ICS, disable ICF :) When the ICF bound to your Motrola Surfboard is disabled, then re-enable ICS and see what happens

Yepp, short for Internet Connection Firewall.
Since it's disabled now, rerun the wizard and post the log again m8

Same as m8 i think....won't running the wizard enable the icf tho.....

The both machines that connect to the lappy, are they set to receive IP addresses autmoatically, or do they have static IP at the moment ?

If using ICS it's neccessary to have automatic ip addressing active, since ICS contains
it's own DHCP client to assign addresses to the boxes that share the connection.
If they are configured with static ip addresses, change it to obtain them automatically.
Leave Firewalls and stuff disabled for now.

What happens when you do so, can you share the b/b connection and not share files
or the other way round, share files but no b/b ?

Regardind ICF after running the wizard:
Sometimes, XP's built-in Firewall may enable after running network setup wizard on LAN connections.

The base that has b/b(not lappy) has static ip(this when i can share b/b), and lappy and other base units set to auto. - but i cant file share to b/b unit.

At mo all units static - then i can file share but no b/b share......

Make sense m8???

Lappy:
ICF and any other Firewall turned off.
ICS turned on
IP of the lappy will be assigned by your ISP, so no bother there.

Box 1:
ICF and any other Firewall turned off.
IP of this box will be assigned by ICS if the setup is ok
IP set to be obtained automatically, same for DNS

Box 2:
ICF and any other Firewall turned off.
IP of this box will be assigned by ICS if the setup is ok
IP set to be obtained automatically, same for DNS

This way round, you should be able to share b/b no problem but not file-share, right ?

Aight,
so this lets you share the broadband connection then ?
If yes, what's the error when you try to access files/shares on the other two boxes ?

Can you ping the IP of the two boxes from the lappy ?

Also make sure that the only communication protocol used is TCP/IP. Anything else like NetBEUI, disable it.
Also, if QoS is listed in the LAN properties, disable it.
