Double check your cable connections, Think this has happened to many many people. Just cos you've got a display back doesnt mean that all your connectors are making it. Double check that and if that doesnt work, try adjusting your Hyperterminal settings (dont think this will help tho)
Most issues i've heard are a loose connection.

i tryed soliderin wires on to modems and still same prob
i've ordered a new max 232 fingers crossed it'll work
i'll let you guys know how i get on
